Travel Tip: Petrin Lookout Tower, the Prague brother of the Eiffel Tower

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I would like to introduce you to one of the most famous landmarks of Prague, the legendary Petrin Lookout Tower.

Located on the top of the Petrin Hill in the center of Prague, the Petrin Tower is a large, 63.5 m (208 ft) tall steel-framework tower that was built in 1891.

The tower originally served as an observation and transmission tower but it is been mostly known as one of the most popular Prague landmarks and tourist attractions with more than 0.5 million visitors annually.

The Petrin Lookout Tower strongly resembles the iconic Eiffel Tower but it is not the exact replica. There are several differences including, of course, the size. Although the Petrin Tower looks monumental, it actually reaches just 1/5 of the Eiffel Tower real size.

However, because of its location on the top of the Petrin Hill, the peak of the Petrin Tower lies at the same altitude as that of the Eiffel Tower, thus offering the visitors just as breathtaking views and panoramas.

The climb to the tower is relatively short but can be tiring sometimes as the slope is very steep. Therefore, some tourists prefer the funicular service to get there. The tower also has an elevator for the disabled so that every visitor can enjoy the spectacular view of Prague from the top.

Petrin Lookout Tower must be known as the Eiffel Tower of the Prague :)

Pertin Lookout Tower's location is really eye catching for the visitors 0.5 million is quite wonderful stats to visit this place :)

The Lahore tower looks magnificent! Thank you for sharing with us. Tomas

That was such a cool place to visit. The views on a clear day, amazing. And the stairs to get up, a bit challenging, but fun to see the view change as you went up.

Not only the tower but the park as well. My family and I had a great time walking there as well as going up. Lot's of places to sit and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. We almost went to the mirror maze, but it wasn't open at that time, hehe.

The walk up and down with the magnificent views of Prague is probably the best part of it! This easily is one of my most favourite places in Prague. Glad to hear you were able to experience it yourself. Have a good one. Tomas

There was another amazing view from the old observatory in the center of town too. Can't remember the name of it. But it has one of those old, breathtaking libraries in it. Gonna have to search through my pics so I can find some and write about it :)

This place has been one of my wishlist. It's a very beautiful place with good people and serene atmosphere

This feels like an entirely different pretin Tower. I guess it's the picture quality that speaks volume. Nice shot this. Keep it up
