Five reasons to build the wall
There are many arguments, some valide and other ludicrous, opposing Trump's plan to build the wall on the Southern Border. It's a waste of money, it provokes Mexico, it's a sign of hate, it won't help stop the illegal immigration, we should welcome everyone, it will imprison illegal immigrants inside the US. However, there are also many arguments favouring the construction of the wall. This short article will focus on the five main arguments fuelling Trump and his fellow wall supporters.
- The wall would significantly lower illegal Immigration
It is estimated that 60* percent of illegal immigrant coming to the U.S jump the Southern Border. A wall would bring that percentage down significantly. The wall would have no bearing on the people wanting to emigrate to the U.S legally.
- The wall would reduce drug consumption
Estimates say that 80-90 per cent of all illegal drugs in the USA are smuggled through the Mexican border. Most of these drugs are smuggled in by illegal immigrants. Additionally, federal law-enforcement officials estimate that only 20 percent of the drugs coming into the country are currently seized.
- It will help ICE, a lot
According to a recent survey conducted by the Washington Times, 89% of the border agents agree that a wall in certain strategic locations is necessary in securing the border. If the experts at the matter themselves support at least the partial construction of the wall, why shouldn't we?
- It will be more fare for the legal immigrants
One cannot deny the unfairness of the situation when one individual has to wait several years to come to the US and another individual decides to skip the process, break the law, and come to the US illegally.
- The cost is meagre compared to the budget
The amount that Trump is requesting, 5.7 billion dollars, is peanuts compared to the annual budget. In fact, 5,7 billion is spend each 12 hours in the annual budget. Critics could note that the 5.7 billion isn't enough for the completion of the wall and that even though that numbers pales in comparison of the early budget, it still represents a lot of money.
Well that's it!
Hope you enjoyed my small article. Would be glad if people left some constructive criticism in the comment section (don't be too hard on me).
- This figure is contested, some more conservative estimates state that only about 30% of the illegal immigrants enter through the Mexican Border.
