Could the Turkish Coup have been a political move by Erdogan?

in #turkey8 years ago

Ever since first news broke about the Turkish military coup against Tayyip Erdogan, I have been pretty suspicius that something really does not smell right about the whole thing.

First of, the Turkish military has historically been in the role of perserving Ataturks legacy and holds deer th values of a secular Turkey, it is true that Erdogan is what we would call leaning towards the fundamental islamists and seeks a portion of his power base from inciting religius fervoir (however nothing in comparison to f.eks the ayatollah). And has in no way showed a willingnes to move turkey further into "ismaist politics".

Erdogan has cracked down on the military and a while ago made some "cleaning up" weakening the opposition towards him within the military´s rank, and was belived to have things on that front well under controle.

The Coup it self, seemed extremely weak, considering what should be needed in such an insident. Taking oer of 2 bridges, some planes flying, some "clashes with police" that ended in police disarming the military.

I am getting the suspicion that the coup might be a political move by Erdogan, strenghtening his power base, and strongly strenghtening his position against the military leadership, insiding fear amongst generals and hostility towards the army from the populace.

And in light of the news now emerging of a so called "purge" wich not only includes the military branch but also the educational sector. one might wonder, is he now cleaning up the country of his rivals?

However these are just my toughts, i am not at all sure, and have not given myself the time to examine the situation carefully, vut would like to hear others points of veiw, and maybe some links and interesting content on the onfolding issue.

Thank you and Steem on!

Erdogan said that, "Democracy is like a train: when you reach your destination, you get off."

It's been a long time coming. Now he is well positioned to become the first Caliph since 1924. As long foretold by Ezekiel 38-39 about 2500+ years ago. Now it begins...

Son of man, direct your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince, leader of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy concerning him. Say: Thus said the Lord: Behold, I am against you, Gog, the prince, leader of Meshech and Tubal ... Persia, Cush and Put will be with you ... also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.
