[WHY CAPITULATE?---Writers Block Poetry Contest Week 3]
The name of the style of my favorite professional poet is Wole Soyinka (a Nigerian dramatist, poet, novelist and professor). I love his prolixity that tends towards the use of rhetorical questions so as to shock people from their comfortability. This poem is an attempt to rouse people from their docility and make sure to strive for themselves instead of remaining slavish to principles and affluent people
Why is this subservience?
A typhoon/whirlwind…folly trees venerate,
Bowing reverently to the imperious howling breeze.
Must they wriggle to its dance flow?
Remaining intransigent via an uncompromised freeze.
Why is this subservience?
Forest kings…cringing of the low animals.
Retracting and veering towards another route.
Were they created to be regarded as minimals?
They are also animals, albeit, traceable to a root.
Why is this subservience?
Illustrious…groveling and currying for a favour.
Lauding and showering encomium for them to look on us.
Can’t you live without being spiced with their flavor?
Making them a demigod…riding on horse.
Why can’t we pull ourselves up with our own bootstraps?
Unless, you want to unknot people’s shoe straps.
Your life lies in your hands; cherish it with renewed brands,
Or you remain riveted in abyss of mundane brands.
