Blissful Rest- A twentyfourhour story.

A sudden feeling of guilt crept into his heart just as a sliver of excitement rose up his spine. Squeals of delight and excitement was all he could hear. He saw men, women and children dressed in medieval costumes mixed with twenty-first century clothing of jeans, t-shirts and trainers. Court jesters and their funny looking hats with bells pranced about the park. All looked happy and carefree. He was envious, not so long ago he had been like that. Now he had to be nagged out of his house.

A band played on a stage a little to his right. Parents watched their children play. He smiled at the funny antics of a little girl. The smell of apple, spice and cinnamon carried its way towards him. He inhaled deeply, finding peace in the scent.

"Aren't you glad you came?"

He turned and smiled at Janey, "thanks for inviting me. I have forgotten how it feels to live again."

"I wish Lily were here to share this day with me"

"Accept that she is gone...its been five years!"

He sighed...she would not understand his pain.

"I think I would just grab something to eat."

He walked away from her as fast as he could. His He walked idly taking in the festive atmosphere. For the first time in five years, he felt content. He found a grove surrounded by tall shrubs that ensured privacy. He quickly glanced around making sure Janey wasn't anywhere in sight.

As he entered the gap, all noise disappeared. He felt disconcerted but for some strange reason, he found comfort in the silence. A gentle breeze lifted a few wisps of his hair. He wandered over to one of the benches and laid down.

A quick text to Janey assured him she would go home without sending a search party after him.
He stretched out on the bench, closed his eyes and enjoyed the cool breeze in blessed silence.

"Hey,can you hear me? If you can hear me move your toes."

Brian was annoyed at the disturbance. Who on earth would disturb his littl nap? He had hoped the little grove wasn't common knowledge.

"I could have sworn I saw his body wriggle after you pulled the plug."

"He is just as dead as the others."

They continued talking as they walked away from him.

He breathed a sigh of relief. At last...silence!

Hold on..they just used the word 'dead'!

The thought had him sitting up in alarm.

He screamed in horror at the sight before him.

"Its okay...you are going to be okay"

He felt hands pushing him back as he fought to take flight.

"Are those people?" He asked after a few minutes.
"Yes, but they all are dead."

He walked around, studying the people suspended in some weird apparatus. Tubes ran into one arm and came out the other. Some sort of liquid ran through the tubes.

"What is this place? Where is this place? How long have I been here? And who are you?" He asked gripping one of the men.

He saw them exchange uneasy glances.

" Talk to me."

"I am Toby and this is my partner Sam. We are members of the guard. This lab was just discovered a few days ago. Some rouges created this place to build an army...a vampire army. We have no idea how long this has been going on..."

"What year is it?"

"2119...we don't know why you are still alive while the others are dead...."

All other words were lost as Brian stared in shock. 2119? He had been asleep for a hundred years? He looked down at his body, he saw no wrinkles.

He raced down the room to the mirror he saw in the distance...he looked the same he thought as he felt his skin. His stomach rumbled and he thought of food. Sharp pain in his mouth had him panicking...a glance at the mirror showed...fangs!!!!

Was he a vampire now?
He shook his head in denial as he screamed startling Tony and Sam.
