Ho Hum - Just Another Couple of Typhoons

in #typhoon6 years ago

Two typhoons roll by Okinawa but it's life as usual. The people of Okinawa are used to numerous typhoons every year. Whenever an approaching typhoon is reported by the media, we prepare by stocking up on few things to get us through the inevitable day or two in which we might be without electricity for a few hours. Typhoons are never a really big deal to most Okinawans. Even when the most powerful typhoons strike, widespread devastation is unheard of like in the Philippines and many other countries. Why? Japan has some of the highest building standard codes in the world because of all the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions which frequent this country. Our housing is strong and safe. So when a typhoon comes, we don't really worry about it that much. We just hunker in our bunker (stay home) for a while. Typhoons are predictable and we are usually prepared. It's no biggy. We are lucky.
