travel-local Tag
Steemit has a growing user base all over the world. For this reason I think Steemit could be a great source of information for users travelling to exotic location, who want to experience what it feels like to be a local. This is why I want to develop the tag;
travel-local
This can be a place where users can share their favourite haunts, off the tourist trails. It’s also a great place for users who want to be an author, but don’t know exactly what to write about. We are all local somewhere, and many of us look upon tourists with pity at the experience they have on their holidays.
I think there should be a structure to these kinds of post. Something along the lines of the following;
The local-experience
The Best Time of Year / Weather
The Best Time of Day / Day of the week
What kind of experience is it? Luxury? Gritty?
Suitable for Families? Ages?
The Users Recommendations once you are there…
I figured I would start us off with my exotic hometown, London!
Now, London is a Big place. Big enough that hundreds of users could share there favourite spots without any overlap.
My first post is going to be very specific. Somewhere No guide book would tell you to go, however somewhere you can experience what it feels like to be a proper Londoner;
Pop Brixton
So, I will be taking you to Brixton in South East London. A short 10 minute Underground Journey from Victoria Station, Brixton is easily accessible from anywhere in Central London and offers a cultural experience like no other in London.
Brixton is the birthplace of David Bowie and even Van Gogh lived there for sometime. It’s a cultural mismatch with strong Caribbean heritage, alongside a new hip community, making it a exciting and unique part of London.
My first travel-local post will be on Pop Brixton. Pop Brixton is a collection of stacked, used Shipping Containers which has been turned into a mini metropolis of Food, Drink and Retail Startups in the heart of Brixton. You can learn more about events and location on their website here;
Pop Brixton Link
Pop Brixton is usable all year round. Whilst being open air in the summer, it is under cover the rest of the year to protect everyone from the British Winters. If you like the hustle and bustle, I would suggest you visit on a Friday Evening, or anytime on the weekend, however there is a great atmosphere right the way through the week.
There are now well over 20 options for food and drink, and unfortunately, I cannot say I have tried them all. They are all independent startups with influences from all around the world, so you are bound to have a unique experience wherever you chose. My personal favourite is Made of Dough who do great sour dough pizza's at rock bottom prices,
Good idea, I might jump on board this tag.
