Uganda today has one of the world’s youngest population, with 78% of the population being below the age of 30.
This boom in the youthful population comes with both advantages and disadvantages to Uganda has a country for example,
A youthful population provides a large cheap future workforce.
Provides a growing market for manufactured goods and provides a large tax base for a country.
That being said, a large youthful population can also pose a big danger to the economy of the country for example;
It puts strain on education and health services of the country, puts strain on food supplies, puts strain on available accommodation, limited jobs in the future

  • Attendance at secondary schools in rural areas is low leaving lots of unqualified poorly educated workers.
  • Disease rates amongst young children are high as the government cannot afford medicines for them, even for preventable diseases such as measles and diarrhea. This means Infant mortality is high.
  • there are lots of children who have yet to have their own children in the future the situation can only grow worse.

This is evident in Uganda today, many people do not have access to quality education, health, social amenities, and infrastructure today across the entire country. Many times Uganda suffers from diseases and famine (People actually die of famine in Uganda) on 2 March 2017 Daily Monitor reported that 11 million Ugandans were facing starvation
and 1.6 Million people were already suffering from famine.
This brings me to the main point I am writing about. AGRICULTURE.
Uganda is not an industrialized country yet and the current magnitude of corruption is killing the quick movement of Uganda towards industrialization.so our current top employer today in Uganda is Agriculture.
But there is a problem, the strong and energetic people(the youth) have abandoned Agriculture and have instead opted to stay in towns with hopes that government will one day help them and create jobs.
Uganda has very fertile lands and equally receives reliable rainfall. I believe that if the youth change their mindset and focus on entrepreneurial projects hidden in the Agricultural. Many of Uganda’s problems will be solved.

I am going to be sharing with my fellow Youth in the upcoming series of my Articles some of the projects that the Youth can engage in and realize huge gains.
