Side quest: Returning some shoes!

in #uk3 months ago

A bit different from my usual posts

A week ago or so, I bought some shoes that I thought were cute at first. I'm trying to join in that loafer style but have struggled to find a pair that is good quality and my size (and, of course, a reasonable price!).

Unfortunately, a lot of shoes in the UK that can last you a few years can get very expensive! Roughly £80 up, which is about 480 STEEM.
I prefer to buy shoes that I know will last me a long time, and not a week of wear, so the search for a pair of loafers was difficult.
I didn't want to buy them online out of fear of not being able to return them. But a lot of the stores I would go to in person just didn't have a pair that suited my taste, fit me, or were affordable.
So, while I searched, I thought I would save up in order to pay for a pair that would make me happy and last me.

The loafers

I'm not really sure how to describe what loafers are, but they're shoes you can see someone wearing to the office haha.
I find the style cute, but really prefer a burgundy red colour, rather than the traditional black. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a red pair.

Eventually, I found a pair while shopping in person at a Marks & Spencer!

The loafers I had bought

Wait, have you heard of Marks & Spencer?

So in the United Kingdom, Marks & Spencer (more often referred to as M&S) is a bit of a more expensive supermarket, who also sell clothes. It's definitely not many people's everyday shop, but it has a lot of quality items.

I didn't keep the shoes

Unfortunately, even though I tried the shoes on in-store, when wearing them in at home, it just felt too loose at the heels. The sole of the shoe fit me perfectly, so I was torn on what to do.
On top of this, I slowly realised that I didn't even like the way they looked or felt, they were so cold and hard it was not something I would want to wear for long periods at a time or walk far in (I know, I'm picky).

The journey to return them

Eventually, I pulled myself together and decided to go back to the store I had bought them from to return, and get a refund as well. These shoes were expensive, at £49.50 (297 STEEM), so I was keen to get my money that I had saved up back.

Unfortunately, would I be able to return them? While wearing them in my house, the labels on the sole had worn a bit. Some stores can be a bit tricky about returning shoes, and having the labels on the base of the shoe still is important!

the label on the shoe

One of the labels had worn down so much, that the barcode was almost gone! Not only that, but a small portion of the label had ripped off. This made me worry A LOT!

The label on the other shoe

The other shoe's label was almost perfect, apart from a little tear. Overall, the condition of the shoes were perfect, with no scratches and no signs of wear on the shoe itself. Those details gave me the confidence to try to return them. Of course, I also still had the receipt which was vital to have for returning!

The staff

While talking to the staff member at the counter about my return, the staff member checked the base. The labels were definitely a point of confusion!! They turned to the other staff present and discussed amongst themselves if they should allow it. I was stressed, if I couldn't return it to the store, I would need to try sell it as second-hand, but I definitely wouldn't be able to sell it at the price I bought it at!

After a few minutes, the staff member came back and approved the return! I was very happy, maybe the worried look on my face helped? 😂

I'm happy I got to return the shoes! I'll get my money back in 2 days or even a week, but I'm not sure if I'll try buy another pair. I'm a bit heartbroken, but I didn't need the shoes, I'll just wear my trainers!

Thanks for reading!

Well done on the successful shoe return @jen0revision !

I like M&S but it can be a bit pricey and old-fashioned. The quality of the products is good though, and clearly the staff were also friendly.

Haha thanks! Yeah sometimes the clothes are quite in-trend. I do love how many are made of cotton though!

I'm quite lucky that the staff were friendly, I'm sure that if they hadn't been, they would have rejected my return :(

Thank you! Love the cute cats :D

I'm glad you were able to return these loafers, it's a shame they were so expensive :( £80 for shoes feels like too much these days! Have you looked into Doc Martens shoes? I think they have loafers, they are a bit pricey too but I know they are good quality!

Yeah I'm really happy about managing to return them, oo that's true, they've got a good reputation I've heard. I'll have a look and save 😊
