Sunak picked up just three votes from Monday’s ballot when he had 115 MP votes. Coming in second place in Tuesday’s ballot was junior trade minister Penny Mordaunt with 92 votes (up 10 on Monday’s result) and in third place was foreign secretary Liz Truss with 86 votes. She hoovered up the most votes from Tom Tugendhat’s backers after he was eliminated on Monday, picking up 15 new votes. The anti-woke contender Kemi Badenoch, who is popular with the Tory grassroots and some party donors, got eliminated Tuesday after getting the lowest number of votes at 59.
