Ukraine gets millions of dollars in cryptocurrency donations in order to "kill as many Russian soldiers as possible."
Ukraine has received millions of pounds in cryptocurrency donations, which will be used "to destroy as many Russian soldiers as we can," according to a government spokesman.
On the country's official Twitter account, as well as on the profile of deputy prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov, addresses for Bitcoin and Ether wallets were given.
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, voiced alarm that the Twitter accounts had been hacked, putting any cryptocurrency donations in the hands of malevolent actors.
However, a spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Transformation verified that the request for bitcoin donations is legitimate, and that the ministry's communication lines are "safe."
"We're attempting to contribute to Ukraine's victory and enhance worldwide society's awareness of what's going on in Ukraine," the spokeswoman continued.
The Bitcoin and Ether wallets currently hold £5.4 million in total, according to records, with hundreds of donations made in the last few hours.
