Smart tag became a Dumb Tag

My sister-in-law (my wife's sister) came to stay one night with us to spend time with my son, as she often would. From her place to mine takes her on and off a couple of highways and at least two tolls. 

This evening, after bidding her goodbyes, she drove back the same way she came which would take her through the same two tolls. Fifteens minutes after she left, my wife's phone rang - She was unable to pass through the toll because her Touch 'n Go (TnG) card was missing from her Smart tag!

For those not in Malaysia, Touch 'n Go card is a prepaid card primarily used for toll payment on our highways. Because using the card involves bringing the car to a complete stop in the toll booth and winding down the window to tap transceiver with the card, users have an option to use the card with a device called a Smart Tag - a card reader designed to be used with the TnG card (the card is inserted into the reader) that can automatically communicate with a transceiver in the toll up to 15 meters away without having to stop the vehicle nor wind down the windows.

As it turns out, my mischievous 3 year old has removed the card from the Smart Tag without anyone noticing, and now his aunt is stranded at the toll booth.

There wasn't any option other than for me to race to that toll plaza some 14 km away to deliver the TnG card back to my sister-in-law, who was, fortunately, flabbergasted instead of angry. It's a good thing my son is cute :P

Unfortunately, because it was peak hours when everyone is returning from work, I had to brave the traffic on my way home.

Lesson here : If you don't want a toddler to mess with your stuffs, don't leave it out in the open!!
