Ulog No. 28: More women in politics

So with two days to the presidential elections of 07th October, 2018 in Cameroon; some outstanding individuals here in Yaounde from different fields in the government organized a conference at Palais Des Congres here in Yaounde to advocate for the entry and participation of more women into politics. The theme of the conference was "More women in politics" and the conference was also one educating the women and all other participants to be models as citizens in the coming elections.

They were advised to be good citizens, to vote freely and carry out the voting void of violence and any act that can disturb the elections which is punishable by law. The speakers also reiterated on the election procedure, when the results are declared and by whom. Many people are always confused especially the old who think that the election results are released by thesame committee that organizes and runs the elections which is **ELECAM (Elections Cameroon). So the speakers tried to clarify this vital issues and answer some questions vital to the elections' process.

This conference was specifically organized to encourage more women to venture into politics. It has been noted that women are often left out when it comes to political issues in Cameroon and this year has really drawn a lot of attention because all the 9 candidates running for the presidency are all men and no woman ventured as candidate this year. Atleast, last year there was atleast a female candidate but it will seem this year it just wasn't going to happen. So this conference was all about encouraging the women who have always voted in minority to go out in their numbers and cast out their votes and to consider running as candidates too.

I was happy to have been given the opportunity to attend the conference as a member of a youth activist group. I was representing AYM (African Youth Movement) in the conference as a member of this organization. So i was really glad AYM gave me the chance to stand for them in this conference.
The main goal of this conference was to see more women in politics and that will just be evaluated come Sunday 07th October, 2018 when everyone takes to the polls to vote for their respective candidate. We can only pray and hope for a free-flowing and safe elections.
It is the wish of every Cameroonian that a better leader emerges who will take this beautiful country to higher heights and develop the nation. If there is one thing every nation, group or people need to be successful, then it is a good leader.
