ULOG No. 21: Empower her program at WVED
Hello guys; today marked another day with WVED and today, we had the empower her program. This program is one that provides a platform for young girls to grab skills and knowledge through which they can add value to their lives, generate income and a source of living. Today, the kids were engaged in knitting/designing activities which included bags. They were all engages in the activity and they all really enjoyed the activity. The output too was quite good too as they made quitea good number of bags and amazing designs.
The younger children engaged in drawing and most of them chose to draw images of their favorite fruit. Some of the images were hilarious and i could not help but laugh. Our director even said one kid's banana drawing looked like a cutlass and we all burst into an enormous laughing session. It is really nice to see how they kids enjoy every activity making use of the opportunity to have a lot of fun.
This activity is supposed to run weekly because a few of the kids are to attend a program in New York, USA come october 13th and some of their designs will be advertized and used as exhibits. They are trying to make as many as they can so that they will carry it along with them to the program...
Everything is being put in place to prep them for theirr travel and the program as a whole. Right now, all they have to do right now is focus on making more of their designs and knittings.
With the way i see everything going at the moment, I have a positive feeling that everything will go quite well. They are excited to attend the program and are giving their all into making more of their designs and knittings which i think is going on just well and there is no call for alarm. The only issue right now is the delay in the travel papers of some of the kids that are to travel but we hope it will be figured out soon.
Until then, we just have to continue with our work and preparing they kids for the road and the program in New York. They will be representing us afterall and we have to make sure they do that in grand style of course.

It looks like a great program you guys are working on there in Cameroon (if i checked the background correctly).
Wish you and all those kids the best; good luck in your trip to New York. It is great that you can have access to resources to help these kids see how bright their future can be. I saw another post where they are video chatting with friends form Germany, i think.
To provide kids with the experience of other cultures and worlds and ways to conceive their own reality and their potential to do so much more is priceless.
And you, who are helping them get there, deserve all our praises.

We are working on a lot of projects to create an awareness of the many opportunities out there available for them and to bring these opportunities right to them. Thank you my friend for your kind words. We really appreciate it and i wish you all the best in your country Venezuela. I know it is a country that is going through a rough time but hope is something we should never lose.
Cameroon too is not at the best of places too but all we can do is pray and hope that things will be better.

Same to you. It is amazing though that difficult as Cameroon situation may be, when I see what you, guys, have been able to do, I have to put things in perspective. We are now where most African countries were 50 years ago.
Schools, even in state capitals, are decrepit now; deprived of any technological gadget or service that any other country has.
I met a lot of people from different countries of Africa, incluidng tiny Swaziland, while I attended Grad School in the States and i have nothin but fond memories from all of them. I have a gfreat admiration for your people and the inspiring examples of tenacity and resiliency they've given to the world.
