Whether governments should implement euthanasia or prohibit it is <b>open to debate</b>(有争议的). Advocates of this idea regard it as a mercy killing; others vehemently <b>object to</b>(反对) it for different reasons. I am going to delve into this issue. 

First and foremost, the adversaries of this CONCEPT <b>disapprove OF</b>(不赞成) euthanasia because of their religious convictions and they firmly believe that any kind of murder is immoral. God IS the only entity to give life and take it; doctors should heal in lieu of killING. They state their <b>stark</b>(对比鲜明的) opinions that euthanasia is actually a euphemism for murder. In addition to this, they highlight that accepting one legal killing might act to encourage a large number of new cases, which is redolent of the dark days of mankind, where witch hunts were prevalent. According to archaeologists the Spartans THREW disabled and SICKLY infants OFF Mount Taygetus TO THEIR death, WHILE The healthy and abled-body people were raised as daredevil warriors. Fortunately, everyone’s life is respected today; we uphold the rights of THE elderly and severely sick babies. Moreover, people might have <b>ulterior motives</b>(别有用心). They may urge doctors to carry out <b>assisted suicide</b>(协助自杀；安乐死) on their relativeS SO THAT a large inheritance MIGHT PASS INTO their hands. Deciding over a person’s fate, CHOOSING who is in the most debilitatED STATE AND incapable OF formING any kind of opinion, is totally unacceptable. Performing euthanasia is clearly against **the Hippocratic Oath*b(新开业医生的誓约；希波克拉底氏誓言）which can **tarnish**(使失去光泽) the reputation of THE modern medical field.

Secondly, euthanasia is used as a last resort. When the **agony**(极大痛苦；临死挣扎) is unbearable and there is no hope, a patient seeks euthanasia legally in some countries, such as THE Netherlands, WHERE THEY BELIEVE that every individual has the **inalienable**(不能剥夺的) right to die with dignity. Despite the most sophisticated cutting-edge treatment and the most knowledgeable expertise, incurable sicknesses are EVER PRESENT. Not only does euthanasia hasten the terminally-ill patient TOWARDS death, but it also reduces THE amount of time THEY suffer. They consider euthanasia TO BE a bliss **by virtue of**(由于，凭借) the fact that it is able to free A patient from pain, immeasurable pain. Strict laws ought to be implemented in order to prevent abuse of these practices. 

In conclusion, euthanasia is a very **polemic**(争辩的) issue in our modern society. Many people **unceremoniously**(突兀地) refuse it, baseD on their religious faith or humane beliefS. However, some people raise their voices to promote THE dignity and autonomy of dying patients.
