@hlezama

And how interesting for me that Vivian is in Antofoagasta. When I was still working with my Australian client, the University of Newcastle, the Education Faculty had a programme there - in Early Childhood Development.

Anyhow, I am so glad that the first step of the journey is done and that Vivian will soon be safely in Brazil.

Too much of what is happening in Venezuela has resonance for Africa, especially when you say

Those who reject Venezuelans now came to Venezuela years ago when here things were better and more promising. Those who want Venezuelans out of their land may need a country to receive them if theirs become hostile any time soon.

I was brought to South Africa as a three-year old. I know now other country. I love no other country although I hark back to bits of my British heritage. There are elements here that would have the likes of me, leave. Even though I worked to free the country of apartheid and...

Anyhow, let me not put a pall on the happiness of this stage of the journey.

Wishing you better health and God speed to your family

Thanks for stopping by, Fiona. I understand the South African drama. It is sad that it came to this. As I have commented to other Southafrican friends, I hope it never escalates to violence and racial nationalism.
Nothing more dangerous than a misdirected nationalism. It is becoming ugly in South America because of the Venezuelan exodus. There are thousands of untold stories of injustices committed against decent people because of the mistakes of a few reckless minds. I hope one day all these countries see the contributions Venezuelan professionals can make in their proper perspective. They are benefitting from cheap highly qualified laborers who cannot demand fair treatment in any court, but those stories do not get as publicized as those of burglars or killers.
Anyway, we are taking it one day at the time and today we celebrate.
You have a wonderful day. Blessings to you all

Hello, Henrry

I hope it never escalates to violence and racial nationalism.

I fear this is not far from the surface and there is already xenophobic violence which broke out last week. It is sending Nigerians and Zimbabweans, among others back to their home countries. Julius Malema and his accolytes are fomenting the latter. Although they've been rather quiet in the last few weeks. Long may that last.

Enjoy your celebrations and trust all in your family will be safe.

"There are thousands of untold stories of injustices committed against decent people because of the mistakes of a few reckless minds."

Sad, true, and beyond words.
It seems to me that our best bet for now for telling these stories is in the guise of fiction or in movies like Schindler's List, a true story that could pass for a Hollywood movie.
