ULOGS #3 | Having a Nice Time with my Mentor

in #ulogs6 years ago (edited)

Just this afternoon on campus my friends and I were discussing about the exam we just finished , of sudden I heard my name from somebody right behind me. I turned but could not believe my eyes, it was one of my mentors, Ayo. Just like many I call him AY. He graduated Last session (about few month ago) from the same department as mine. he was in campus today to resolve an issue about his NYSC placement.
I met this young man about a year and half when I was resuming for my 200l. Then, seeing me as a fresher he helped me in coping with the new environment and the new system of study. With him learning Anatomy & physiology was as good as learning ABC. He gives tips on how to learn better and how questions are meant to be answered. One thing I emulate about him is his study habit and this has always been his strategy for being at the top of his class.

After the whole exaggerated exchange of greetings and hails we sat down under a shade to talk. His is first statement was "How have you been?" however the statement might seems simple but it is not my first time of hearing the simple statement from him so I understand both the Implicit and Explicit meaning. the statement actually means How is your life?
without holding back anything I poured myself out to him, but the major point was "In a year time I will be a graduate- who will I become, will there be room for me, what will be the next step". He answered the whole question with one point BE GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO NOW. He explained this by an illustration- A triangle (or better still a Pyramid) sectioned into three levels occupied by three categories of people: The Poor, The Average and The Excellent. the population in these compartments decreases as it climbs up to the peak of the pyramid.

The excellent compartment has the best rewards, but only have a very few number of people as occupants. This are people who work hard, make sacrifices and strive for the best in what they do. Even when when there is No Room, Rooms are created for the Excellent because the world does not celebrate the poor or good they celebrate the best. therefore, STRIVE TO BE THE BEST IN WHAT YOU DO.
Let alone of this, there are many other things we talked about Academics, Spiritual life, Relationship and more...
The little time spent with him is as golden as golden as Gold itself
Thank you for being there Bro Ayo... hope we see again very soon
