How to Accelerate your Bitcoin Transaction for Free!

"Got bitcoins stuck in a pending transaction?"
"Did you accidentally send bitcoins with a low transaction fee?"
"Fed up of waiting days, weeks, or even months for your bitcoin transaction to confirm?"

How to fix the issue?

Hopefully this guide will show you a few ways you can move your stuck bitcoins!

How to avoid this in future transactions?

Simply pay the correct transaction fees, you can view the current recommended fees and wait times here; https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/

Transaction Expiry Myth

Some think that Bitcoin transactions have an expiry time, this is not quite true.
Technically once the transaction has been broadcast it can be confirmed at any point in time, even years later.
The mempool is a collection of pending Bitcoin transactions, and the mempool used to have an expiry time of 72 hours, but this time is now extended to 14 days.
This does not mean your transaction has expired, but likely that any unconfirmed transactions older than 14 days MAY drop off the mempool.
If a node re-broardcasts your transaction (as most nodes do), then your transaction may stay in the mempool for a lengthly amount of time.
Some wallets may allow you to resend your coins after a certain amount of time, some wallets will remove the pending transaction if not conirmed after a few days, and show your balance, allowing you to send them again (this time make sure your fees are slightly higher than the average).

Don't pay to fix your transaction!

There are many people offering services to speed up your transaction, and can be expensive and cost up to $100-$300.
Please try the free methods below first, as most of the paid services are using the free methods below and just taking your money!

Spend a little time!

FREE Method #1
ANTPool Accelerator

Steps

  1. Register and account with ANTPool.
  2. Then visit the following page;
    https://www.antpool.com/user/prioritiseTransaction.htm?m=savePrioritiseTx
  3. Enter the transaction ID in the top box.
  4. Enter the raw HEX transaction in lower box.
You can get the HEX raw transaction data by visiting blockchain.info find your transaction, and append ?format=hex to the url and it will show the raw transaction data in a hexidecimal format.
    Example transaction: https://blockchain.info/tx/bd351fe30d041f695c8db4671e9d005da5dde64bc7edee6cbdf20dfab35f4789
    Example raw transaction data: https://blockchain.info/tx/bd351fe30d041f695c8db4671e9d005da5dde64bc7edee6cbdf20dfab35f4789?format=hex
  5. Fill in the captcha and submit.

Info

This method can take between 2-10 blocks before your transaction is confirmed.
Allow up to 72 hours for your transaction to confirm, although this method is usually much quicker.

Notes

The 2-10 block estimate is only the blocks that are found by ANTPool, to see the latest blocks found by ANTPool you can visit the following page;
https://www.antpool.com/poolStats.htm

FREE Method #2
ViaBTC Accelerator

Steps

  1. No need to register.
  2. Visit the following page;
    https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/
  3. Enter your transaction ID
  4. Fill in captcha and hit the submit button.

Info

It is extremely hard to submit due to the demand (see the notes below for submission tips).
If successful with submission this method again can take up to 72 hours to confirm the transaction, but usually within a few hours.

Notes

ViaBTC only allow 100 transactions to be submitted per hour, and usually it can be hard to actually submit your transaction ID to them due to many people trying to use this service. The limit resets every hour on the hour, so try to be quick and try every hour between XX:59 min and XX:01 min.
If you own a bitcoin mining contract with ViaBTC then they offer 5 customer accelerations per contract, and it avoids the 100 hourly limit, but they are normally sold-out of contracts.

FREE Method #3
CPFP Child Pays For Parent

Steps

Here is a video showing you the steps how to create a CPFP transaction;

Info & Notes

This method only works if you are receiving the bitcoins, if you sent the bitcoin to another person then you can not use this method.
To perform this method you must also have access to the private keys of your bitcoin wallet.
You essentially send yourself the funds with a higher fee, and this forces the parent transaction to get confirmed as miners want the new transaction fees.

FREE Method #3
Double Spend Transaction

Steps

The steps to perform a double spend transaction is different depending on your wallet, and may not be possible on all wallets.
You can wait a few days to see if wallet automatically removes the unconfirmed transaction, then you will be able see your balance and create a new transaction normally (this would still technically a double spend transaction).

  1. Check the fee you should be using here;
    https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/
  2. Remove the transaction manually from your wallet normally performed offline, and can involve manually removing transaction data from your local wallet data.
  3. Create a new offline transaction with higher fees.
  4. Save a copy the raw HEX transaction data/code of your new transaction.
  5. Go back online and broadcast your new transaction, using your wallet.
  6. Use the HEX code on following sites to push your new transaction.
(If errors pushing new transaction read notes below)
    https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/pushtx/
    https://blockchain.info/pushtx
    https://blockexplorer.com/tx/send
    https://blockr.io/tx/push
    https://coinb.in/#broadcast
    https://www.smartbit.com.au/txs/pushtx
    https://search.bitaccess.ca/tx/send
  7. Go to the free method #1 (at top of this page) and submit the new transaction data to ANTPool.

Info

Some wallets will remove the unconfirmed transaction after a few days automatically, which will allow you see your balance and send the coins again, this time if you enter a fee slightly higher than the recomended fee https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ then it will get confirmed.

Notes

This is an advanced method, and most wallets do not easily allow you to double spend, as developers of bitcoin are trying hard to stop double spending.
You may get errors submitting your new transaction if they still have your previous transaction in their database, also some may warn that the transaction is a double spent transaction. Just move on to the next site on list to submit the new transaction data.
But don't worry as long as the new transaction has the appropriate higher fees, it will get confirmed quickly.
Only one of the transactions will confirm, and the first transaction will be stuck forever as there will be no coins left to send.
It is important that you do not use the old input addresses from the first transaction to receive funds, as if there is funds available for the first transaction to complete then it will be possible that the original transaction confirms at a later date in the future.

PAID Expensive Method #4
BTC Transaction Accelerator

Steps

  1. Copy your transaction ID.
  2. Visit the following page;
    https://pushtx.btc.com/
  3. Enter your unconfirmed transaction ID.
  4. Click the 'Estimate Price' button.
  5. If happy to pay the price, then continue and make payment.
(Only accepts Bitcoin Cash BCH or WebMoney)

Info

Your transaction will be confirmed within an hour or two, but can take up to 4 hours.
A quick reliable service if you urgently need to get a transaction confirmed.

Notes

The cost is normally quite high, so may only be worth it if your transaction has a high value. Not recommended for small transactions, as may cost more than the transaction is worth.

Thanks for the upvote!

Thank you, I hope you found this post useful.

Your up-vote and gratitude means a lot, and encourages me to make more useful posts!

Thanks @cryptosteemz. What is your comment on the report that the Blockchain.info wallet has an advantage in that it allows you to set the fee level according to what you are willing to pay?

Do you agree with this report, and if so what disadvantages should one be be concerned about in using this wallet?

P.S. I have up-voted and am now following you.

Thanks for the upvote, followed back :)

Most wallets allow you to set a fee level that suits, but setting too low can cause your transaction not to be confirmed.
I personally like full control over my coins and use a Ledger Nano S hardware wallet.
I don't like to keep coins for long on web-wallets or exchanges!

Thanks for your info., esp. your implication that I should make sure what is the normal fee (for what I am trying to do) before giving my own fee setting.

I too have control of my keys; but I am using paper wallets and duplications on files on USB drives that are kept offline, except for a few minutes at a time.

I worry about the chances of finding my hardware wallet inaccessible for some reason. Is that a baseless worry?

Most wallets use dynamic fees, and automatically adjust to how the market is.
You can visit https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ to find out the current suggest fee for the network.

I recommend using this hardware wallet: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/r/895b?path=/products/ledger-nano-s
(I did a lot of research before picking the Nano S)

As for device failing, it has not happened yet, but you write down your 25 keywords in a safe place, and even if you loose the NanoS your wallets and coins are safe.
If someone tries to use your device and enters the pin in wrong 3 times, the device wipes itself.
As long as you have your keywords safely written down, you have nothing to worry about.
I feel much safer using the NanoS, and private keys are never exposed online, and you can even use safely on an infected computer (thats how safe it is).

Thanks a lot, @cryptosteemz. I'll follow your strategy for safe storage and include using the hardware wallet you recommend.

No problem, glad to help.
Make sure you write down the keywords when setting up (I made two copies) and keep them safe.
Rest is quite simple once you have used it a couple of times, but if need any help or have questions using it I would be happy to help.
Also I recommend only buy direct from the previous link I gave you (its an affiliate link so I will earn a couple of bucks when you buy with my link). But do not buy elsewhere or device could have be tampered with and resold.
Also avoid Trezor or Keepkey, as they have a few security flaws with the chip they use (wont go into it here, buy you can google it if needed).

Hello again! I clicked on your link to go and buy the wallet; but I need your comment on two points. First, is there something I need to enter to ensure that the affiliate benefits flow to you?
Second, do I have to get shipping from Europe? The check-out page shows 58 Eur. for the product and 24Eur to ship it via a service called "La Poste Colissimo". They must have a N. Amer. distributor with a more reasonable shipping charge, I am thinking. No?
We can resume this chat via our Discord accounts. My Discord address is @lestatisticien#7280. I think you can reach me via the DM route with that address.
Cheers!
P.S. I am holding up the purchase till I hear from you.

Thanks for holding on... Yes shipping is weird, I paid 16.34 Euros via UPS to the UK.
Then when brother ordered his, he was able to get 15 Euros via DHL.
Is the cheapest option for you 58 Euros?
Does seem expensive, especially for one nano device!

Yes just using that link should earn me a few Euros, thanks for using it. Think earned 3 Euros last time someone used my link.

Yes indeed @cryptosteemz, I will be ordering via your link. And thanks for the heads-up on what to avoid.

May I invite you to see my new post at https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@lestatisticien/impact-of-futures-trading-on-bitcoin-repository-of-best-posts-and-videos-to-17-dec-2017 ?
