I have less DOT than what is the current Required Minimum Stake. Is there a way to take part in staking anyways?

How long does it in general need to sync all the blocks from westend?
And is there a way to speed up that process? Maybe some changes in the network connection or something?

TristanToday at 12:57 AM
Hi, noob question here: I have an idea for a parachain, where pow is provided by manual classification of image data (as in a captcha) for producing machine learning datasets. From a technial standpoint, can something like that be realized with polkadot/substrate and ipfs?
So miners should have a webapp, where they can see and classify image data, validators check if the classification is correct and both get their rewards for that.

RyjekToday at 2:26 AM
Hi there! I don't know is it a good place for ask about it, hmm.. --
can polkadot holders participate now or will be able to in the future in any pre-sale projects such as IDO, ICO, IEO?

Shaman34Today at 5:26 AM
Hey guys, excited to learn about this project, can't find details on market cap on aggregator sited, do we know what that is currently?

I'm looking at Polkawallet for android, and I'm concerned about something: is there any chance a third party app installed on my phone could access my Polkawallet data? I think android apps are containerized, so theoretically they are all safe, from each other. But, anyone have advanced technical opinion?

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:18 AM
In general it is never safe to assume that installed apps are sandboxed. Always assume that apps can and will be compromised. Depending on individual risk tolerance and threat models, you can determine what is OK to have on a hot wallet on a phone.

lateneToday at 8:20 AM
thanks for the comment. Honestly I'm looking at installing the Digibyte wallet alongside Palkawallet, and that's where my nervousness is coming from. I'm thinking it's probably unfounded nervousness.

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:21 AM
I don't know anything about digibyte, so can't advise.
I would evaluate what you are nervious about and try and address that specifically.
what is the problem if other apps can "access data" on your polkawallet

lateneToday at 8:22 AM

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:22 AM
If you fear this, why install it?

lateneToday at 8:23 AM
because I think my fear is unfounded. Polkadat is not the only thing in my universe.. I work with other blockchains too...

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:23 AM
maybe you should get seporate devices to isolate concerns

lateneToday at 8:23 AM
I have two laptops and my brand new galaxy s20 ..
I can't afford a new device for every blockchain I want to work with

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:25 AM
up to you to evaluate. A smartphone for under $100 is cheap insurance if you intend to have many multiples of that in value on that device that are at risk

Parity Signer - Turn your smartphone into a hardware wallet
The simplest solution for cold storage. With Parity Signer, you keep your private keys secure and sign transactions easily. Turn your old smartphone into a hardware wallet for Ethereum and Ethereum-like blockchains. All data is transmitted over the air via QR-codes.

check this out, might be a better option to use with you old device (wiped and then goes offline forever after install)

lateneToday at 8:28 AM
I'll look at that for sure. I haven't gone to hardware wallets so far because I felt like running cut down Linux os specifically for safe blockchain activity and nothing else made sense, that way I wouldn't need to trust a secondary company such as Ledger. Lo and behold ledger was hacked.
but there is a line where, I have many devices to segment and minimize risk, might be going overboard.

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:29 AM
ledge's user and sales database was compromised. the device was not.

lateneToday at 8:29 AM
yes I know

Dan Shields | Parity Support EngToday at 8:29 AM
of course, you need to evaluate that.

lateneToday at 8:30 AM
I do believe Digibyte is a solid project. The only reason I'm looking at it is because I have an FPGA miner mining that stupid oxBitcoin and I want to switch, DGB is an option.

Hi, noob question here: I was recently introduced to blockchain and polkadot, I've watched some videos and docs that explains the concept of polkadot, and even did some tutorials on Substrate. But at this point my understanding feels too theoretical. Is there any suggestion on how to get some concrete idea on what kind of application polkadot has?

LeToday at 12:45 PM
I would like also to start, what are the tutorials on substrate you watched?

ÖcköckToday at 6:59 PM
so i setup everything for westend, synced the chain, created my session key and so on
but now when i try to start my validator with

polkadot --chain westend --name username --validator

it says

State Database error: Expected pruning mode: constrained

Any ideas?

sikToday at 8:13 PM
i guess you synced a full node and validator requires archive node

ÖcköckToday at 9:12 PM
totally makes sense

quveauxToday at 9:19 PM
Hey there, I tried to make a controller account additionally to my stash account with Ledger on polkadot.js - but instead of making a new one it renamed my old one! Is it because I chose the same address type and index both 0, and only one account can exist at 0/0 that's why it renamed it instead of creating new? So my rhyme is: when creating a 2nd account with Ledger I should choose type 0 / index 1 ? would be glad for any help thanks!

quveauxToday at 9:33 PM
And is this line of thinking correct: It does not make any sense to create a separate account for controller also on the same Ledger as the stash it controls ( in this case one could use stash = controller ). Controller is meant to be "hot" and should be created as a hot wallet not on the Ledger on which the stash is.
