Do you upvote your own stuff?

in #upvote7 years ago

I always upvote my posts an hour or two after I post because it gives people more curation rewards, but I rarely upvote my own comments, (in fact I don't think I have ever). I'm missing out on a lot of profits by doing this but it almost feels too self-serving to me.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your opinions on the matter. Good or bad.

Sort:

I always upvote my own posts. I didn't in the beginning but now I do. Not for the money. Just to try to boost them so others can see them. I don't always up vote my comments. I do it sometimes though. I do when I make a valuable comment , and there are a lot of other comments on the post. The only reason I do this is to get it closer to the top so others can read it.

I upvote yours though. LOL

I didn't realize it moved comments up in order because of this...

It depends on your settings. You can have it set at most popular / trending or newest or oldest or even sort by reputation

I do all of my Steeming from my phone, except for maybe two posts, so I don't look too deep into the settings. I really need to put more time into this platform.

I currently do not self-vote (aside from the accidental ones that occur, but I go and unvote those). My reasoning is because I'm just too prissy of a girl. That doesn't mean my attitude will always be this way. There are times when I see the idiotic posts that make it to trending that tempts me to give myself that $0.10 cent upvote, or whatever value it is at the moment. The temptation!

With that being said, I have no problems with individuals that do self-vote. My problem are with the "whales" that have $100+ upvote worth to their name (one upvote is even worth $180) and they either self-vote or upvote a dumb meme or giphy from an alt-account. Pure greed in my eyes. Those individuals just bring out the sarcastic nature in me, which I try very much not to be.

I do the immediate upvote of my post thinking it is like a couple bucks in the old guitar case, but I never upvote my comments.

I upvote my own posts. I do it to bump up its visability a little bit. Plus I have worked my butt off for it so why not?

realistically, anyone who says they aren't here for the rewards is lying, at least to some degree. So I absolutely upvote my stuff for that reason too but I feel like if I upvote my comment it almost loses its value. Like it will be perceived that the only reason I commented on someones blog was to vote on my own comment and not actually contribute to their post.

Alright, I'm a little confused as to what this is? third party application that hosts an account you've created or something? If it equals more votes, I'm all for it! lol!!

Yep. It is a new account that will upvote posts for the listed people. It is small now but I will grow it.

Yeah, I totally understand that. I personally upvote some of my own comments if I have some extra vote power laying around. I also started my own curation trail so I have people depending on me to upvote posts and make them money. It does not auto vote on comments though. So if i vote on my post and the trail follows that post i will sometimes also use my own money to bot vote it a couple days later so they can get some curation rewards from my post also. A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do I guess

Upvoting your own comments is a bit strange, I think. But if you put a lot of work into your article, it's justified to get yourself a little treat, even if it's just one cent like in my case at the moment.

At this point I really don't have enough pennies to go around. There is so much I want to vote. I think I have used a vote on myself twice but once was an accident. Maybe one day we will all be big ole whales and can give ourselves dollars. But I would probably feel guilty.
I think from a business perspective it probably makes sense to self vote. From a social perspective not so much. Maybe it just depends on what the individuals goals are?

Absolutely agree. I feel like I need to save the voting power for everyone who interacts with my blogs. I don't want to burn it out on just my own stuff or I would probably have less followers honestly. Everyone likes to earn a little bit.

What I find interesting is how many people have strong feelings on these issues. Seems to me like just differing vote strategy. After all the point is to grow an account.
My reasoning is my penny votes won't help me much in the long run. However testing out the best places to show consistent support opens the opportunity for building connections. Over time those connections could have a higher value than the penny.
On the other hand if one were to put some money into SP, a larger vote value may yield a better ROI with some self votes thrown in.

I would probably have less followers honestly. Everyone likes to earn a little bit.

You are probably right. But you might be surprised. I know spend a lot of time in conversations that do not result in votes. I am amazed sometimes at the engagement on some of my post, considering my comment votes are useless.
But you have got me thinking. Maybe we should start hubs account with an investment of SP. Would be great to compare how much easier it would be to grow an account by starting out with enough to offer a decent reward.
