Civilization of the Maya Nation, The Mighty Proof of Human Culture
The Mayans began to show the development of their civilization in the Meso-American region around the year 250 AD to 900 M. The Maya nation has a very high cultural results, when compared with other civilizations.
In addition to having its own writing system, the Maya is also known to have developed some science, such as mathematics, and astronomy. In its heyday, the Mayans are known as civilizations that have the most dynamic culture in the world.
In general the civilization produced by the Mayans is not much different from previous civilizations. They went along with the results of the existing culture, but they managed to perfect it for the better.
The Maya civilization has considerable territory, covering southeastern Mexico, all of Guatemala and Belize, as well as the western regions of Honduras and El Salvador. Mayan civilizations are scattered from the northern lowlands, which include the Yucatan peninsula and the Sierra Madre highlands, as well as the entire southern lowlands of the Pacific coast.
At the height of its glory, the Mayans have managed to massive urbanization into the territory of Mexico. They are also known to have built many monumental buildings, which show the high architectural and intellectual development of a human civilization.
So do not be surprised if the Mayan civilization can be aligned with the development of Ancient Greek civilization, and the Renaissance phenomenon in Europe. At that time, the major cities of Mayan civilization had a population of 50,000 to 120,000. The whole city is connected by an excellent network, so inter-city coordination is always maintained.
Around the year 900, the central government of Mayan civilization experienced a huge political collapse. The central government was suddenly abandoned by its inhabitants. It certainly makes the Mayan big cities begin to experience the destruction and culture began to stop growing.
Until now there is no theory that can explain exactly what causes the Maya to leave the city center of his government. But some theories say it happens because of an outbreak of disease that can not be cured. Another theory calls the region of Maya civilization suffered severe environmental damage resulting in prolonged drought.
Archaeologists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) have identified the Mayan civilization in the forests of Quintana Roo, in the Mexican region. It is estimated that there are at least 6 pieces of ancient architectural complex in the excavation area.
The number of Mayan heritage sites reaches hundreds of large, and thousands of small ones. Some of Maya's most famous heritage sites are Chichen Itza, Canceun, Comalcalco, Copan, Dos Pilas, El Mirador, Naranjo, Palanque, Piedras, Negras, and many more.
