Utopian: 2000 CONTRIBUTIONS - Now Going To Kickstarter! What Do You Think?

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

Utopian.io is the first platform rewarding Open Source contributors and it is doing that with Steem.

Utopian started exactly 2 months ago and today we reached the big number:

2000 CONTRIBUTIONS FOR STEEM BASED PROJECTS!

We need your feedback. Please read and comment!

2000 Contributions

In 2 months Utopian.io was able to generate an incredible amount of contributions being promoted only on Steemit. Utopian.io took a while before having traction so actually this number has been generated in a much shorter time than 2 months that is the entire lifespan of the project.

But We Have A Problem!

Utopian.io is not funded by anyone and survives thanks to the sponsors who have delegated SP, thanks to the founders investing in the project from their own pocket and thanks to Steemit inc. that has donated 50K liquid Steem in order for Utopian.io to be able to create Steem accounts directly on the platform.

The thing is, we need more funds to let this platform go global. As every other project on the Steem blockchain most of the traction comes from inside Steemit but when big competitors appear you easily get kicked in the ***.

We Need To React!

Utopian.io is the FIRST platform in the World rewarding Open Source contributors but other similar platforms are taking this merit because they have the big bucks and use those to get promoted. Want an example:

It is time for Utopian.io to go to the outside world and since we are not ready for an ICO and waiting for the SMT we must find other tools to get A. Traction outside Steemit B. Funds.

Going To KickStarter

This is why we came up with the idea Utopian.io could be presented on KickStarter.com by proposing the Utopian Version 2 on which we are working on.

We believe Utopian.io is the perfect example of a project that will work well on Kickstarter for the message it brings.

We Need Your Feedback

Doing a Kickstarter campaign is much more than hitting a button to submit a post. We need to work on the gigs and find appealing gigs that Kickstarters will likely want.

What Do You Think? Which Gigs could be interesting?

Some suggestions:

  • Placements on Utopian for project maintainers of Open Source startups
  • Sponsorship in the platform in various forms
  • Merchandising?

We are working with @stellabelle thinking about the gigs, because they do make a difference.

Do You Have Experience with KickStarter Campaigns?

If you have experience in running a successful Kickstarter campaign get in touch with us: https://discord.gg/Pc8HG9x

If We Win The Campaign

If we win the campaign the funds will be partially moved into Steem and partially used to run aggressive marketing campaigns.

Hai @utopian-io, I still have to learn how to use the facilities you provide, until now I still do not understand, I hope you are willing to guide me to use this facility in the future, thanks

I'm not a developer myself, so I'm not sure of the best approach to take in a KickStarter campaign, but here's a few ideas anyway!

  1. Seek out some partner sponsorships in the developer software/training/equipment fields to donate their products, or at least sell them to you at cost for fulfillment of backer rewards. They get some sponsor branding and exposure to the Utopian community which is their target market.
  2. Offer incentives to the backers account on the Utopian site. These can be purely cosmetic - such as a custom badging and reputation system, titles, etc... or functional such as access to private forums, discord servers, etc.
  3. Offer a limited number of high tier rewards wherein the backer gets the ability to designate an open source project of their choosing for a Utopian "hackathon." This would be a promotional event of perhaps 2-4 weeks duration where Utopian puts an official spotlight on that project, offering it elevated exposure and rewards voting during that timeframe. Some folks might pay quite a bit to have a shot of energy infused into the development of their own project or a favorite open source project they use regularly.

I will ask some of my colleagues. I know a lot of entrepreneurs, so I'll get back with you soon.

Kickstarter is great for visibility! You need a top notch video and presentation for sure, try to sell the future, where Utopian is widely used already.

For rewards, badges and such are cool. Maybe they could be rewarded with ico tokens later or let them have discount on the sale?

Kickstarter could be one option. Have you thought about possibly trying to issue a UIA on bitshares? Then once SMTs are ready, you could do buybacks and convert over the SMTs. Heck, why not just do both :P

yes i think this is the best solution to help #utopian-io see the world indeed to show the world what is utopian
i will give my best too to think about what could make the difference and help utopian win the campaign my best luck for you.

Marketing Marketing Marketing!

This is huge and something Steem doesn't do nearly enough of.

Also, I would like to see, if possible, more integration with github. If there is a way to somehow implement full project views like when you view a Github repo. Direct editing of files from withing Utopian. Is this planned for the future? Is it even possible with Github's API?

I think to make this platform truely grow, it needs to be basically a drop in replacement for Github. Users shouldnt have to alternate between the two platforms.

Also, the signup process needs to be simplified and expedited. It takes far too long for new accounts to be created. Many people forget or just lose interest by the time their accounts get approved 10+ down the line. This is a big hampering in the growth of the Steem currency and Steemit along with it's apps.

If these issues get ironed out, along with more integration to limit swapping between Utopian and Github, then it will definitely be off to the moon!

I have high hopes for this project and love what you guys have done so far. I just hope it lives up to the hype and it's true potential is realized. Crowdfunding this project could definitely help it. Anything to help this project I am down for. But, with that said, the money better be very well spent. Well spent in my eyes is on development to address the issues I stated above between switching between the two platforms and MARKETING! Marketing is absolutely huge these days. Shitcoins gain huge popularity and have massive ICO's simply because of marketing. We need to get this project exposed to every open-sourced developer out there. There's no reason they shouldn't flood in to Utopian. Why wouldn't they want to be kindly rewarded for their contributions? It's a game changer!

I find Refind idea very interesting http://relevance.community/ but if it is the money you are lacking then you should seek help from business angels or VC

Sponsorship in various forms and merchandising would help. This is really all about marketing. You have a very good platform/project, how to raise awareness and participation is key. Unfortunately I am not an expert in marketing, and I also understand marketing request funds too. TV(eg. shark tank), site, merchant products, video, poster, flyer, etc. What I can do though is to continue to get part in this project and contribute, and also share the info with my friends. I know it's very minimal, but if everybody does the same, it could have powerful effect. Best

It is time for Utopian.io to go to the outside world..

To be honest I am a little scared, all the competition I am going to have as a contributor, but this the future, it's going to happen anyway, soon or later.

My suggestion is to try to fund the Steem blockchain, makes STEEM to go up, makes people invest real money, having a big market cap.

This is what I want to see in the near future:

STEEM future.jpg

You'll also have more potential upvoters, so it usually balances itself out.
