The Value-Driven Innovation

According to the Advanced English Dictionary the word ‘value’ is defined as the quality (positive or negative) that renders something desirable or valuable. On the other hand the word ‘Added-value’ defined by the Cambridge Dictionary describes it as an improvement or addition to something that makes it worth more. Today we live in a society that thrives on communities. The more value-adding the community you belong, the higher your chances of success in life. Today we find ourselves living in a world driven by information. And as numerous as the information is out there the most beneficial are not easily stumbled upon. You must search and search to come across vital and valuable information. Before the industrial revolution in the 17th century some people came together to take the initiative, and they were like "Hey, I don’t know about you but I’m bored to wits with a world driven solely by agriculture and livestocks, does anyone else feel the same?" then another answered "Sure. In my search for knowledge I came across a crazy scientist claiming he is able to build a textile machine. I think we should go check it out!" Allow me to say that moments like that have been known to set and decide the cause of an era or even the world at large. This group of people, this community of people of men and women all interested in contributing to their society for profit, personal interests, or a simple act of philanthropy. I must stress that no man is an island. One man informs the other who in turn inform another, and the cycle goes on. This is how strong communities are built. Great nations are built first at the community levels with a conscious intent of adding value to every member of the community. Wise men have discovered this insight long ago and have gone ahead to build communities for their own cause or the society’s.


Today, we live in the Information Age with drastic and glaring changes in our advancement compared to the previous eras, and yet not everyone today is maximizing the opportunity this era is presenting (value, information, access, speed, reliability and so on). 
According to Smart Insights: a global social media statistics research summary 2022 recorded that more than half of the world’s population now use social media. A whooping 4.62billion people around the world now use social media. The stat goes on with the most prominent users of this number found in Northern Europe, Western Europe and Northern America with their percentage of users at 85%, 84% and 82% respectively. Also the least prominent users of social media are found in Western Africa, Eastern Africa and Middle Africa with user percentage of 16%, 10% and 8% respectively. 


What this statistics is simply stating is that the world is headed in the right direction in terms of building a social community whereby everyone and anyone around the world is accepted. The major concern of the statistic is that any people or society reluctant to explore this innovation(value-driven community idea) is left behind to stagnate and considered irrelevant. This is because the information you need to succeed is with someone out there, the value you need to add to yourself or your business is just a subscription away. The motive behind communities or social groups is value driven; to share knowledge, resources, ideas, challenges, solutions and success. Maybe we have forgotten the bases of our humanity - some folks haven’t and they have harnessed the powers therein. Humans are social beings. To grow we must support one another. We must be willing to add positively to one another else we go into a state of degradation and finally extinction.


The social media is a great example of a community and it’s quite clear for everyone to see how much value and success it has brought to its members. The blockchain community is also a wonderful example, see how they are helping each other grow, pulling one another by the hand. They are sharing the information without discrimination. It’s amazing what the future holds for the blockchain industry. I have to stress once again that no person can develop without first having to add some value(knowledge, skill, certification) to himself, likewise, no leader or government can attain true success without adding value to the people.


As I come to a conclusion, I can see history repeat itself. This time the common phrase divide and conquer is replaced with gather and conquer. The world is a different stage today compared to some 20years ago all thanks to the great minds who saw the potential in the power of the community and harnessed it by calling together all peoples from different races and cultures to add value to them, male and female, young and old for a picture of the future they have foreseen (Google is a perfect example of this). I was tempted to name this article ‘A White Evolution’ because of the role this group of people have played in driving the value-driven innovation into the very heart of the 21st century. They are in the driving seat. But as much as a single tree cannot make a forest it is therefore crucial for the other trees to take their place, know their role and play it well. 


I write to everyone to jump on the bandwagon of this evolution - the value-driven innovation. Let each and everyone know that to truely succeed as a people or nation we must have added to the next person value-wise and even to nature around us. Let’s remember the Tower of Babel - though our languages have been extremely scattered across the world yet we can be reunited in the heart for the purpose of adding value to our world and in the process we can leave a better world to the future generation.
