Becoming Vegan for a week challenge

in #vegan7 years ago (edited)

Hello, beautiful people, how are you? Are you ready for some challenges? My name is Thomas and with my friend (the other Thomas) started to record our steps how you can achieve your goals. We try out different challenges every week, every months, and show to you what we learnt, what we experienced, what we felt during to accomplish our mini goals. How does it get any better than this? Do you want to wake up earlier to be more productive? Do you want to eat healthier to lose some weight? Do you want to travel much more because you hate to be pince-cone who does not move in our ever-green society? Do you want to learn a new language, to order from that exotic restaurant of the corner? There are millions and millions more little dreams we want to achieve, but somehow, nothing happen. We remain those lovely pince-cones, because of our human nature we hate to change. We love to have our safety net, and be static rather than dynamic. Too dangerous to leave our comfort zone. Fear the failure. Yeah, yeah Mr. godknowswhoareyou, we know this, so what’s your deal?- you could ask. My only deal is we leave our comfort zone. We embrace the failures. We want try out new things and we want to show you. To see mistakes are naturals, and to achieve something small or big is a wonderful feeling worth fighting for. To embrace you stand up not to sit. To walk, not stand. To run, to fly, to move. Albert Einstein said once “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”. So do not waste our precious time, let’s get started.

Challenge 1#

Meetlovers try to be a vegan for a week

Hey, infinite beings are you thirsty for some challenges? Our very first pick was to be vegan for an entire week. First of all, I have to tell you it was a massive challenge for us. Basically we are eating meats with meats and the only side dish we know are eggs. So let’s break to some points how this challenge happened.

Grocery

It can be day 0 for you if you want to try, it is nice to be prepared for the start. Honestly we did not know much about vegan lifestyle, so based on our little research we cannot eat anything what we ate before. No milks, No cheese, no eggs, no yoghurt obviously no meet, etc. It is a strict viewpoint, and who wants to change his or her lifestyle definitely have to start with step by step. First no meat, then no eggs, slowly leaving the usual products, because I am telling you that was deep water for us. We’ve been the ice-creams in the hell. So we bought a tons of veggies, we bought some tofu, humus, chickpeas, oats, chia seeds, mushrooms etc. I thought it will be hard to make up the protein source. I was wrong. There are plenty of options to get a protein rich foods, for instance chickpeas and humus are my new favourite snacks, yummy.

Cooking

We decided to cook a big pan of “paprikas krumpli” which is a traditional Hungarian food, originally with a loads of sausage, but now, without it. It is easy to make basicly you just have to boil 1kg potatoes , add some 200g red lentils, 300 g chickpeas, some sliced mushrooms and some chopped tomatoes. Spice it with some red paprika, pepper, garlic and parsley. It is nice, to have some vegan stuff in your fridge, if the munchies monster attacks.

The Execute

The first couple of days were easy. The food we ate were much lighter, than the meats, our stomach had easier job to digest the food, we felt we are fresher, we have more energy. But as Uncle Ben said “Great power comes with great responsibilities” had to realize, we have to eat more frequently because the food is not that heavy. You eat and after 1-1.5 hours you already feel hungry again. The coin has two sides. You feel lighter, but you need to refill your tank more frequently. The other thing it was harder to workout or do sports, without meat and eggs. Perhaps only for us, but we felt we can do better performance in sports with eggs and milk in our stomach. The rest of the days of the week was unpredictably hard. My mood “changed like the god damn seasons” I wanted to eat bacon.. a lot. I felt hungry most of the time, and I was not satisfied with salad and tofu. I think this is the part of process too, but it is really important to listen to your body, and it said “ GIVE ME BACON WITH EGGS!”. The last days was again a little bit easier but I recon because we knew the end is close.

Conclusion

Pros:
- reading the labels
- conscious eating
- feeling lighter, more vitamins more fibre

Cons:
- you have to eat more to feel full
- you have to be prepared with vegan foods
- no eggs and bacon!!

Our conclusion is to be patient. Really. We know Rome was not built by a day is the same if you want to change your lifestyle. Takes time to master it. You will make mistakes, you will eat milk based cookies, but that is part of the life. Even if you are doing just for a week or for a month, don’t worry much if you make some not perfect steps. You just start and try to do your best, and please listen to your body. Be in harmony with yourself and embrace your vegan side!! How does it get any better than this??

Do you have a suggestion what challenge should we do next? Let us know.

Its true u have to eat more, but actually when u first go vegan your body detoxes so takes a while to get used to it. Aduzaki beans make u feel really full so much protein and iron. there are many alternative if u miss your comforts, there are vegan alternatives to bacon and eggs. Do u think u will stay vegan, the craving for the high fat cholesterol foods will go away especially if u avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee. Use Himalaya salt and natural sugars like agave or coconut, craving reduce so much! your body will love u for it.

Hey there!! Thank you very much, for your comment, it is really important for us to learn and be opened for new things. You're absolutly right, the body needs more time to get use to for the new and healtiher foods. We absolutly enjoyed the fact, we try out , and we added some vegan choices to our regular diet, for isntance, humous or toffu, more veggies which I think a nice plus in our life. Thank you again, and feel free to comment anytime.
