Hi and 你好!(ni hao)

I am an American living in China, I am a teacher, have lived in Asia for over 20 years.

I made a video yesterday about what you can buy in China for $1. Which is the average hourly wage(people who make this amount are either not taxed AT ALL). You can get a can of beer and a pack of cigs for 1 hour($1)(90 cents to be exact!). Not bad eh? I don't drink or smoke anymore, but thought it would be interesting to show people the economics of this place in a simple example. How much is a pack of cigs in the US for example? I have heard in NY, it is around $10!!! WTF!?!? No wonder people sometimes "smuggle" cigarettes!!!!

I have a youtube channel called, "Vegan Kimchi" please and check it out! Here is the video I just made!

The average cost of cigarettes in london UK is about £10.49 which equates to $13.38 . I don’t smoke but these are one of the products that gets heavily taxed in the UK. You can’t even get a McDonald for a pound here. The standard of living is so high especially with the Brexit situation.

Seems about 8 to 10 times difference in price depending on size and brand of beer and cigarettes you buy. $1 buys that much because it takes a whole hour to make a dollar . After 1 hour of working minimum wage in America you should be able to purchase the same two items for around the same price when you account for the exchange rate!

Hi, interesting! I just heard from someone in Los Angeles, they said, minimum wage is $10 an hour now as of Jan.1. So, after Social Insecurity, Federal Taxes(theft), State Taxes (theft), and?? I am guessing people have half or less, about $5. Not sure how much cigs are in LA, but I am guessing around $5. So, it is close for sure!

It's very similar in ways! Very interesting to look at a little closer. I wonder how much difference gas prices are relative to minimum wage and geographic location. Great post @vegankimchi

I'm always blown away when I chow down at a street side bbq and the bill comes at the end.. and I'm stuffed for about $2-3!
