Mirror Neurons revolution of neuroscience

in #venezuela7 years ago
Mirror neurons were discovered at the beginning of the 90s by researchers from the University of Parma, Italy, while studying the behavior of some monkeys when they performed an action.

This discovery has revolutionized neuroscience to the point of being compared to the discovery of DNA for biology.

This type of neurons are cells capable of reflecting the activity that is being observed and can be activated when we observe another individual performing the same action.

Why are these neurons so important?

Simply because it has radically modified our perception concession, that is, through them we can understand what others do and even imitate it, thanks to the great activity and processing that happens in our brain at every moment.

It has also been shown that these neurons play an important role within the cognitive capacities linked to social life and the empathy that we manage to establish with others. Therefore not only are they allowed to imitate at the level of movements but also at an emotional level.

This aspect is vital to understand how we can be influenced by the emotions of others and how our own emotions can affect and influence others as well.

Finally we can say that regardless of how the research of this interesting topic evolves within neuroscience, more and more we move in the direction of unveiling the wonderful mysteries that surround our human brain.
