The Orinoco Oil Belt (Faja Petrolifera del Orinoco)
The Orinoco Oil Belt (Faja Petrolifera del Orinoco, FPO according to Spanish acronyms) is situated in the central area of Venezuela in the states of Monagas, Anzoátegui and Guárico. It covers an area of 55,000 Km2 and the OOIP (Original Oil In Place) was assessed in the early eights as much as 1300 MMbls.
The belt is about 600 Km in length and 90-100 Km in width. To the south it borders on the Orinoco River and the Guyana Shield. It is divided into four areas:
Boyacá, Junín, Ayacucho and Carabobo.
This areas are further subdivided in a total of 27 blocks to be studied within “Proyecto Magna Reserva” project which objective is to quantify and certificate the Orinoco Oil Belt total reserves and resources.
I worked in Carabobo Project, this area represents the easternmost part of the FPO bordering on the west to the Ayacucho area and to the east to the “Deltana” zone.
