Vertcoin released AMD miner

in #vertcoin7 years ago (edited)

The Vertcoin development team has announced the release of "Lyclminer" today. It enables everyone with an AMD graphics card to mine Vertcoin efficiently.

Lyclminer is faster and more stable than the frequently used closed-source AMD miner called mkxminer. During testing, the Lyclminer performed exceedingly well on AMD graphics cards delivering stable hashrates close to 74 mh/s.

The release of the miner is specifically important to the Vertcoin community who own AMD graphics cards because it facilitates their decentralisation and fair mining ethos popularised by Bitcoin in its early days.

It starts with a vision

The model that a currency should be controlled by the people who use it underpins Vertcoin. In pursuance of this, Vertcoin has been actively developing an open-source cryptocurrency miner in cooperation with the community through a bounty program. As the bounty lock-down for the previous developer (Turekaj) who was working on the AMD miner had expired, other developers were looking to offer their expertise. Finally, the team received the request from a different developer (Cyrptographics) to claim the bounty. After successful private and public testing Vertcoin finally announced a stable, smooth and powerful AMD miner. This miner enables everyone with the latest AMD graphics cards to mine LyraReV2 efficiently.

According to James Lovejoy:

In order to create a fairly distributed consensus system, anyone has to be able to mine a cryptocurrency with commercial hardware available at their local vendors. This ensures a cryptocurrency is protected from malicious intent and it keeps the power in the hands of the users.

The AMD miner is a step in that direction. The release of this miner enables people to mine Vertcoin with commodity hardware from all large commercial graphics card producers.

Give it a go!
