I’m very proud of this video, because for the first time I also composed and produced the music myself. I hope you will enjoy it to relax and take a break.

Here are some facts about the location:

The castle was built around 1220/1240 on the remains of an older predecessor castle, which was possibly built in the 11th century. The reason for this new building of a shield wall castle could have been motivated in defence. The now erected shield wall had a wall thickness of 2.7-2.8 meters.

It also served as a viewing platform for observing enemy movements and establishing visual relationships of nearby castles. The castle Löffelstelz had an internal surface of 29.5 by 21.5 meters and its entrance is located on the southern defensive wall. The shield wall castle initially had three buildings inside, all of which were built on rock. However, the defense position in the protection of the shield wall could point to the original main housing construction. Later, probably around 1400, a vaulted cellar with a height of about 2.7 meters was installed. The building in the southwest had a floor plan of about 8.8 by 8.7 meters and also a basement. The original building in the southwest was archaeologically proven destroyed in a fire disaster in the period around 1260/70. Rebuilt around 1275, presumably by Heinrich von Dürrmenz, the first mentioned gentleman of Dürrmenz, the building only had scant lighting on the ground floor, which is why it was probably used as an storage room. The richly fenced room on the first floor, however, was probably used as a "Ritterstube". In the late Middle Ages, the building received an increase with an outstanding above the masonry truss topstock. In the northwest initially consisted of a stone building, but this was canceled at the latest when the construction of the shield wall castle and probably replaced by a half-timbered.

The Ownership of the castle was there as follows. The first mention of a gentleman of Dürrmenz took place in 1282 with "Henricus de Dürmenze". This came from the family of Niefern and called probably after the acquisition of village and the castle to Dürrmenz. How the acquisition came about is not known. A purchase appears due to the continuous financial weakness does not seem likely. Another possibility is that the castle succeeded in marrying an unknown nobles in Henry's possession. Further Dürrmenz could also have belonged to the district of the Knights of Niefern and was then separated. It is also possible that there was a previous noble family from Dürrmenz, especially since the predecessor castle probably already existed in the 12th century.

Due to the relatively large number of descendants of the Dürrmenzer noble family ownership of the castle were relatively fragmented. As a result, individual members of the family continued to live outside the castle. From about 1365 began a sale of Dürrmenzer goods and rights in larger form, which probably had the plague crisis and the associated revenue decreases as a cause. The monastery Maulbronn, which already had parts of the castle, acquired at that time a large share, but also to other powerful rulers such as the Palatine Elector Ruprecht shares were sold.
