Christmas markets in Vienna
Christmas markets are an old tradition in Vienna. People from all around the world are coming to Vienna in the advent time. Christmas markets begin on Sunday the four weeks before Christmas Eve. In Vienna there are many Christmas markets located in the large square in many areas of the city.
Christmas market in front of Schoenbrunn
In the middle of the courtyard there is the market where just in the middle is a big tree with pretty Christmas decorations. The market offers home made and traditional handcrafted products. An interesting thing about this market is that the event continues even after the end of advent time. You can visit it during the winter holidays and after that it becomes a NewYear´s market. It prolongs the holy time till January 1st 2019.
Christmas market at Rathausplatz
The place infront of the city hall changes to a magical place with thousands of lights. There are many stalls, concerts and workshops for children even the famous and most popular ice-skating ring.
Christmas village near Belvedere
In this small beautiful garden there is magic atmosphere. There are Christmas trees, many stalls with sweets, jewellery, ceramics and many kinds of Christmas decorations. There take place Advent singing and for children there is a Christmas train.
Christmas market at the old hospital
It was the first Advent market in Vienna. It is usually at university campus in a place in front of the hospital. The most important thing is there is very good punch to find! :p
Christmas market at Karlsplatz
The market shows the beauty of artistic traditional crafts. In the middle of it there is a shed with sheep s, goats and others domestic animals. It is appropriate for people who like green and natural products.
Christmas village at Maria Theresien Platz
It is a 5 minutes walk from the Town Hall to get there. This market is similiar to the one at Belvedere,maybe because of that this markets have the same manager. The cultural program is set by music groups and gospel choirs.
Old Vienna Christmas market
The main thing about this market is tradition. In Freyung, in the middle of the centre there is a small but the most beautiful market in my opinion.
Winter market in the Prater
At Prater there is a winter market with traditional Christmas sortiments. You can enjoy the program and live concerts. Prater is also a good place for New Year’s celebrations.
