Events in Vienna over the year
Vienna has more to offer than the Prater. Meanwhile, this has already spread among the tourists. In addition to many events that are either new or unique, Vienna also scores points with a series of recurring events. The time of the year plays almost no role here.
Concerts, operas and plays
It is well known that the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is based in Vienna. It is therefore not surprising that many events deal with them. Whoever prefers to go to the opera sector should definitely not miss to visit the Vienna Volksoper. Here on the programme are not only operas and operettas, but also the lively musical as well as concerts of many great artists. A visit to the City of Vienna should not be missed, either, to visit the Burgtheater. Not only the world premieres of well-known stars take place. In recent years, the Burgtheater has been able to consolidate its reputation as the largest speech theatre in Europe. However, the Musikverein remains the centre of Viennese music culture. The repertoire here ranges from the Vienna Philharmonic to concerts by famous soloists. Every year in the summer months, Vienna's open-air music film festival takes place in front of the Vienna Town Hall Square. Or you can visit the Danube Island Festival, which is always well attended on three days with around 3 million visitors. The biggest charity event takes place annually on the Rathausplatz. The motto here is the fight against AIDS. The Rainbow Parade, on the other hand, conjures up a fireworks display of interesting costumes when they move to Vienna. The event promotes equal rights for gays and lesbians.
Events for the cold season
Vienna is not only an experience in the summer months. While events at the Opera House or theatres certainly run all year round, other highlights will be added in the winter months. The first is certainly the Christkindlmarkt, which can look back on 700 years of tradition. In the meantime, this Christmas market has become a fixed ritual in the pre-Christmas period. Ice skating on the huge ice rink is also a great attraction for visitors every year. And not to forget New Year's Eve in Vienna. This mega party in the city centre of Vienna is paired with a New Year's Eve path across the Old Town of Vienna.
