Slovenia - Ljubljana - Viewly
Not quite sure where to start with our adventures here in Ljubljana - but a highlight was definitely a tour we went on with the Viewly team to get some cut shots for the video
This was like a revisit to Lake Como in Italy.
We shared a traditional Slovenian cake - similar to a custard slice with fresh cream in South Africa
Traditional Bled cream cakes - created in 1953 by a pastry chef who gave it the image still used today. It was created In the Park Hotel and still going strong today.
At Park Cafe they make 500 000 of these cakes annually - they have made as many as 13 million cream cakes - if they put them in a row they would reach as far as Rome and if they put them next to each other around the lake at Bled, they would create a 7m high wall around the lake.
Love this story - and to add to my memories my son Lee actually ate one of these with us - and I never see him eat dessert as he mostly eats very healthy foods only.
After seeing the beautiful views and eating the famous cake, it started to rain and we took shelter for a while in a coffee shop across the other side of the lake.
Later we went for an unbelievable experience. We were treated to a typical Slovenian place - one not for tourists - and the food was michelin style - 6 course meal with different wines and port to each dish. So enjoy the photographs of our gastronomic experience
We were each given a cheese lollipop - so delicious
Delicious hot bread rolls - beetroot, black ink (dyed with ink from squid) and white
This was a single crumbed prawn with delightful flavours orange, pomegranate etc - I ate every morsel
Fish - that tasted a little like sushi
At this point we had three knives and forks set before us and I was already full
In between there was ducks liver - which was not for me but followed by a fillet steak with berry sauces that was superb
The dessert was a piece de resistance - whisky ice cream with a very soft biscuit and caramel with a pretzel stick
This was certainly a day that will remain in our memories forever. Thank you guys - Stefan, Uros, Furion, and Denko for amazing fellowship.

That cream cake looks really delicious. Thanks for sharing that. It is interesting to learn about the history of foods.
Wow, that meal looks great. Love those creative dinner rolls. I would be interested in trying the Ink bread. Were the breads made to be paired with a specific dish? Like the ink bread with a squid dish...?
The breads were served at the very beginning of the meal and halfway through the various dishes - and they were all together - the three different kinds of breads. They apparently use ink from squid to colour the bread though @chefsteve
