Calle Crisologo

Walking along Calle Crisologo is a must-do in Vigan. The Spanish style architecture of this well-preserved street makes you feel like you've been taken back in time, literally jumping into your Philippine history books.

While waiting for our ride to Laoag, we strolled along the beautiful cobblestoned street of Calle Crisologo. The sun was high during our quick stroll and there were lots of people, mostly tourists, taking pictures together with the Spanish style houses and boutiques. Kalesa was the king of the road and many didn't want to miss the experience of riding one. Although you can easily spot one in the Metro, it's still different seeing the Kalesas in their natural setting instead of high-rise buildings and perfectly cemented pavements.

Everything seemed classic, even eating a simple dirty ice cream looked extra vintage because of the place. As if god had heard our pleas for something cool, my family and I decided to have ice cream during the hot wait. I'm the type who orders the same thing over and over again so given the choices chocolate, queso, and dragonfruit, I safely picked queso. My boyfriend was the more experimental type so naturally, he'd chosen the dragonfruit.

It was difficult to get pictures without much people in it but we managed to get some decent ones with the help of good timing and my cheap tripod. Haha!

The lighting was great, no doubt about that. But the heat that paired with it was making me hot-headed and dizzy, a bad combination for a hungry Justine. So my parents, knowing me very well, suggested that we look for shade and eat something while waiting.

We spotted Irene's Vigan Empanada, which wasn't that far from Calle Crisologo, and ordered one for each of us. From the outside, you would see how it is being made. They served the empanadas quick as soon as my mom ordered. It was still hot and my mouth watered at the mere sight of its golden crispy wrap.

It wasn't long before we were finally fetched for our tour. Wonderful is an understatement for briefly experiencing history as if we were time-travelers touring the past. Despite the short encounter, thank you, Vigan! Til the next time!
