RE: Vocab-ability Prefix–271 (contra__, counter__ = against, opposing) – A More Powerful Vocabulary (earn UpVotes with “Vocab Practice” exercise)

"MY VOCAB PRACTICE."

  1. Contradict.
We found out from the reporters that the witnesses' accounts did contradict the defendant's prior testimony.

  2. Controversy.
The controversy began because the performer started to disrobe on stage--which was not in the rehearsal.

  3. Contrary.
The supposed Christianity of some people are contrary to their abject bigotry and hatred of people who are different from themselves

  4. Counteract.
Upon entering the ER, the victim was given anti-venom to counteract the poisonous snakebite she received when walking barefoot on the trail.

  5. Counterproductive.
The meeting between both sides was counterproductive, when each of the leaders began shouting at each other, so no one could really hear the gist of the conversation.

Good work!

As for #3, I'm always dismayed by those Christians who are virulently against abortion, but fully in favor of war ... usually against people of darker colored skin and different spiritual beliefs.

Indeed. They're probably for the death penalty too.
