Water is precious: 6 tips to avoid wasting it

Water is an indispensable resource without which there would be no life on our planet. More than 900 million people in the world do not have access to this primary good: it is important, once in a while, to stop and reflect on our daily actions to understand not only how to decrease the consumption of this good, often taken for granted, but also how to avoid unnecessary waste.

Even if 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water, only 1% of it is drinkable . Every day, each of us is used, on average, 15 liters of water for household chores . But there are several small tricks that can help you reduce waste without giving up a clean house.

1. Use the "sprays"

When cleaning, especially in the bathroom and kitchen, always try to use spray bottles. Since these environments are the ones that need more maintenance, a sprayer filled with water and disinfectant will help you clean every surface more quickly and at the same time limit waste of water.

Tip: As an alternative to disinfectant you can use high-alcohol alcohol or vinegar.

2. Repair the leaky faucet

We have all tried to have a tap in the house that keeps losing, even just a few drops. A little out of habit, a little out of laziness, we often do not deal with it. But do you know that in this way you can waste 46 liters of water a day ? The total can reach 1,380 liters per month.

Tip: repairing the faucet is cheaper than paying the water bill the following month!

3. Recycle the water from the washing machine

The washing machine water can be useful not only to make your laundry shine, but also - for example - for cleaning floors, balconies or external railings. How does it work? Simply separate the drain hose from the wall and let the water flow into a bucket .

Tip: use a cloth at the mouth of the tube to filter the water that ends up in the bucket.

4. Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth

How many of us forget to turn off the tap while brushing their teeth or soaping their faces? For every minute that passes about 17 liters of water end up in the unused drain: the equivalent of a bucket and a half of drinking water. Next time, pay attention!

Tip: with a simple gesture, do good to the environment and your wallet.

5. Change the shower head

It's easy to forget about the time that passes when you're under a nice hot shower and finally relaxes. But it is good to remember that every minute that passes, about 18 liters of water are consumed . Reducing these figures, however, is possible: install a water-saving shower head . A small change, for a great result!

Tip: choose a smaller and more diffused jet and immediately consume a lot less water!

6. Use the dishwasher!

Washing dishes is certainly not one of the most popular activities, which is why the dishwasher comes to our rescue, saving us time and effort. But did you know that with this wash you also save water? A modern dishwasher consumes about 12-14 liters of water per cycle, while manually washed dishes need at least 50 liters.

Tip: remember to operate it only after filling it completely.
