Wattpad Stories that Became a Hit on Big Screens

in #wattpad7 years ago

WATTPAD is a site where you can write and read stories for free.

It became an outlet for young writers to mold their talents and draw inspiration to keep on going from their readers. It has also produced a lot of successful writers around the world. A lot of Filipino Wattpad writers has gained a huge fanbase and were given the opportunity to become published authors and transform their online novels into paperbacks. They were extremely lucky to have their dreams realized. But there were some who got luckier and witnessed their novels turn into a blockbuster hit film.

Here are three of the best Wattpad novels which conquered not only the online world but also Philippine cinema.

  • Diary ng Panget

The popularity of Wattpad in the Philippines all started in this story. The Diary ng Panget or DNP became a huge hit because of its hilarious yet "sweet" plot. It was written so naturally, not to impress but to simply entertain readers. It garnered millions of reads on Wattpad and eventually got noticed by a publishing house called PSICOM. It was published as a book divided into four volumes. Much to the delight of the fans, VIVA Films acquired the rights to make a movie adaptation of this bestselling novel. Moviegoers witnessed the love-and-hate relationship between the spoiled rich brat named Cross and his personal maid Eya, a funny girl who believes that she's ugly but has a very strong personality who will do anything to achieve her dreams. Furthemore, this Wattpad turned blockbuster movie launched the career of Nadine Lustre and James Reid and opened a lot of opportunities for them which made them one of the hottest loveteam in our country today.

  • She's Dating the Gangster

One of the few tear-jerker novels that was loved by the Wattpad community was She's Dating the Gangster. It follows the lovestory of Kenji and Athena and the trials they faced as they navigate through their relationship. It was far from other Wattpad novels which relies on "kilig" scenes and lines and light-hearted plots. It has crossed a different path by making the readers' hearts flutter at first only to squeeze and break it on the end part. It was published under Pop Fiction and became an instant bestseller. Things got more exciting when Star Cinema, the most successful film production company in the Philippines, made a movie inspired from this bestseller hit under the direction of the blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina. It starred probably the most successful teen loveteam in our country, KathNiel, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. There were a lot of significant changes made to make the movie a lot more better but the essence of the story was still there. Personally, I think this is the best movie adaptation from all Wattpad novels.

  • The Bet

Written by Kimberly Joy Villanueva under the pen name ilurvbooks on Wattpad, The Bet was an instant hit among YA readers. The plot was pretty simple. Drake Sison, a popular guy on their campus, made a bet with his friends to make the nerdy transferee student named Sophia Taylor fall for him in thirty days. But things were blown out of proportion when love intervened and changed his plans. The movie adaptation starred two of the brighest stars today, Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil. It became a huge success, earning 12 million pesos on its first day and after a few weeks, it grossed more than a hundred thousand pesos.

There are still a lot of Wattpad novels which were adapted into films and earned a LOT of success. It only proves that the online world is powerful and influential. I hope this site will produce more and more successful writers in the future and will help in improving the Filipino literature and cinema.
