How The Mighty Have Fallen... My Wednesday Walk

in #wednesdaywalk6 years ago

I lost the family fortune gambling on crypto...

I admit it. We are flat broke - almost down to our last Mercedes.

I mean sure, you'll see a couple in these next few photos, but they're kind of old... Time to face the music. We are busted. The movers are here and we're moving out!

There's one of the few remaining Mercedes - on the left.

I hope me and Cathy don't wind up living in the Mercedes wagon!

We are leaving with almost nothing. Can you imagine all our belongings fitting into this one tiny truck?

What would Great-Great-Grandfather think? There are people living on the castle grounds! Looks like they've been there for a while too... This used to be part of the garden!

Look at all this stuff on the castle grounds!

It's shocking... this was the grand driveway, leading up to our old family home... a simple 19th century coal baron's estate.... (sigh!) But those days are long gone. We are leaving - on foot like the common folk we have now become. We are heading to some low class neighbourhood called Fernwood, where we have become tenants ... times have changed indeed!

At the bottom of the driveway you can still see part of the old gate to the estate.

People driving to work in the morning. Driving themselves mind you... no servants!

Can I learn to live like this? Lining up to wait for a bus...

They are very quaint, these tiny homes. What's that you say? Many of these homes have multiple apartments? Remarkable...

The poor folk seem to like vivd colours. Is this to brighten up their little lives?

It might be starting to work on me, that Fernwood vibe. Maybe I can do this!

I can learn to live down here a mile from the castle like some kind of Hobbit...

With my darling wife Cathy showing me the way...

We'll find some tree lined street, a tiny house and a five-year-old mini van, and live happily ever after! Two cats in the yard? No... Cathy is allergic.

This was my fictional tale of a fall from imagined wealth to the real world - the one that doesn't exist entirely in my head! :)

What a blow ! I should have gotten to know you sooner! What a loss.

To think I could have rubbed shoulders with the Baron's great-great- grandson! I could have parked my Mercedes next to yours and been in line when your driver washed them. I missed out on so much!

Thanks for the smile, Keith. Your humor never fails. The story was amusing and your pictures were great!

Upped and Steemed

Let's face it... the family fortune fell into sharp decline when my skull shaped island turned out to be a volcano and blew its stack... Losing the rest on EOS was just the icing on the cake... Thanks, Denise :)

How ghastly ! I hope you will be able to adjust.

It must be terrible to be the one to loose the family home place to...... strangers.

How WILL you ever go out in public again?

snicker

Naw, it's ok.... that place was haunted as hell, you have no idea. It's on a list, top ten most haunted houses in the country. Stupid piano playing all by itself in the locked room in the tower. Candles blowing out then re-lighting themselves... Total pain in the ass... the new buyers have no idea what they're in for! ;-)

Uh oh ! Bet there is going to be some buyers remorse on that !

Fun shots and story loved this post ;)

thanks for joining Wednesday walk tip!

Thanks so much, glad you liked the post! :)

Haha Keith, I’m happy you & Cathy got out of that haunted castle and back living amongst us commoners. 😂

Thank you! It's a drafty old place as well... :)

Castles are overrated - all those echoing halls and ghost stories. And how would you escape from a turret during a fire?

Five-year-old mini vans are the best - still reliable, but no need to worry about scratching it while you load it down with a spare bit of shining armor.

Anyway, lovely northern houses you've got there.

Thank you! I think of northern houses as being all brick - I saw a lot of that in Ontario, where they have real winters. Frame houses are more common here in the 'San Diego' of Canada where winter is more rain than cold.

Very nice structurally, @keithboone! A walk started in a story. You almost fooled me, just the crypto reference made me doubt myself. Because your story could have been true! Better it was not. A small house, a five-year-old mini van and a loved one is really all that a normal person can do to be happy.
Digital editing, of course ... @trudeehunter will be glad to see such a result.

It's good when we can participate in several challenees with the same post, as you did here.
This is why I have initiated a challenge to allow this. This is a post that includes all the first week's entries. If you want to see, this is: Something About Me - Week 1.

Thanks so much, @bluemoon, I'm happy you liked my post! I will check out your challenge, it sounds interesting.

With lots of pleasure. I'm one of your fans even if I did not prove it.

With Cathy leading the way you will be just fine @keithboone And instead of driving past these quaint and colourful houses and glorious tree lined streets you will soon learn to appreciate the beauty of nature all around you in a new way. If you do have to inevbitably part with the last of your fleet of sleek mercedes, you can always pretend that you are veiwng Fernwood through their tinted windows instead of a pair of serviceable sunnies. At least the council are repairing the footpaths for you so you don' t have to worry about tripping over uneven surfaces and over grown tree roots etc.

And if walking is a little taxing to begin with, pehaps you may be able to afford one of those electric skate board thingys I see use as they speed along on the footpaths in our neighbourhood. Chin up Baron Boone, a man's home (whatever its size or colour) is his castle. Servants are not all they are cracked up to be either.......not that I speak from experience.

Thank you for sharing your Fun, Fictional, Fernwood, Fables with us my friend. That road trip has done wonders for you, creatively. (lol) (U & R)

I'm viewing Fernwood through tinted something I can tell you that! :) Thanks so much for all the kind words and for your support Trudee!

I love very much your sense of humor. :-)
You put a smile on my face reading the story.

Thanks so much, I'm happy you liked it! :)
