This is an article for the first week of weight loss. First solid steps we must take and we are not talking about any recipes.

There are countless excuses that people use when talking about losing weight. I have found that the most popular one is that it is way too hard! That is the thing- people start with extreme diets and when they cannot handle the pressure they quit. Old habits are rooted in so deep that the decision to lose weight is not enough. They quit feeling worse than they did before. Most probably there is a kilogram or three that was lost in the progress but since the diet was too extreme they go back to their old ways sooner than later (where they not only regain the lost kilograms but gain some extra for a reminder).

Why do we think that the solution must be hard? Life is only torture if you make it that. Stop it! Stop it now!

We are concentrating on the thing that we are struggling with not on the desired outcome. If the new diet is pushing us to the limits we cannot seem to stop thinking about the difficulty of it. We find different angles to explain to ourselves and others of how hard it is to lose weight. We make ourselves martyrs. Why? Because we want to be loved. When we stop the diet now then our friends will give us the necessary attention, because we (supposedly) tried so hard. When at the end we succeed with the weight loss then our friends will be proud of us for going through such a difficult journey.

Looking for love from outside instead of inside is the problem here. I know it is the best feeling to be loved by your family and friends. All the attention and support. It is all wonderful (if we have it). But something is missing as soon as we are alone. One of the main reasons people eat too much is they are looking for love! They want the burger to fill them with the feeling that they deny giving to themselves.

Love is universal. We are taught to get it from grades or medals or from a promotion. Truth is that love is literally in the air! Breathe it in! Why do we feel happy when taking a walk in the park? Because we are breathing fresh(er) air. We are calm and here in this moment. Feeling the moment. Our body is receiving love, you might say. A simple thing as patting a dog or picking up a maple leaf in autumn has a tremendous boost on our mood. There are people (including me) that find cleaning their house a wonderful stress reliever. It just makes them happy! Giving yourself more opportunities to be happy is a way to receive love. Being a martyr is hard work- save 'hard work' for accomplishing something bigger and wonderful in your life.

It’s time to take responsibility of your life. You are who you are because you made the decisions you made. No matter what happened to you before you interpreted it the way you thought right. You made the decision to interpret the situation as good or bad. You made the decision to let opinions hurt your feelings. You made the decision to hate your job. You made the decision to let your mood drop because of the cloudy weather. You made the decision to put the food in your mouth.

As the maker of your life you also are all you need. Everything in your life starts with you. So, when we are talking about weight loss then it is no surprise that it starts with a decision. Not a thought. A firm decision.

To summarize, the first thing to do for the first week of weight loss is to understand what was said before. Get your mindset ready for a change in your life.

Weight loss is easy when you chose to take it that way.

Concentrate on the good things, your desired outcome.

Give yourself the love you need by doing things you enjoy doing that are also good for your health.

Think about love as the air you breathe in (not a word someone dear says to you or something you put in your mouth).

Once you have made the decision there is no room for excuses.

Take responsibility for your life.
