MY MINDMAPPING ESL LESSON JUNE 25 2017
MINDMAPPING LESSON PLAN 6/25/17
WHY DO WE USE MIND MAPPING?
MIND MAPPING IS AN EASY WAY TO ORGANIZE OUR THOUGHTS.
IT WORKS WITH OUR MINDS AND IMPROVES MEMORY.
MIND MAPS CAN BE MADE FOR ANYTHING.
SUBJECTS
LANGUAGE
PEOPLE
PARTIES
THOUGHTS
IDEAS
BUSINESS
HOLIDAYS
GOALS!
WE ALWAYS USE A LANDSCAPE PAGE.
ALWAYS START IN THE MIDDLE.
THINK OF YOURSELF WITH A “BIRDS EYE VIEW”.
START WITH THE TOPIC.
BRANCH OUT WITH WORD ASSOCIATION.
THINK ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE TOPIC AND WORDS AND HOW IT RELATES TO YOU.
EXAMPLES: I LOVE, I LIKE, I DON’T LIKE, I HATE.
OR YOU CAN USE OPPOSITES,
HOT – COLD SUMMER – WINTER TALL - SHORT
LET’S GET TOGETHER!
THINK ABOUT HOW THINGS CONNECT TOGETHER.
LIKE A TREE BRANCH OR A CHAIN. (BLOCKCHAIN)
CAT – FUR – SOFT – TOUCH – HAND – GLOVE – WINTER – COLD – ICE – SKATE – HOCKEY – TEAM – FOOTBALL – SPORT – GAME – PLAY – TENNIS – BALL – BEACH – WAVES – SURFING – DANANG – LOVE – FOOD – MY QUANG – FAVOURITE – NOODLE – RICE – FIELD – GREEN – LEAF – TREE – CLIMB – UP – SKY – BLUE – COLOUR – TV –
SHOW – PLAY – THEATRE – OLD – PEOPLE – GO OUT – NIGHT – FRIENDS – DINNER – BBQ – SALAD – COOKING ….
BE NATURAL AND EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS (CONFIDENTLY)
REMEMBER THIS IS ABOUT HOW YOU CONNECT TO THE TOPIC. NOT ANYONE ELSE. BE NATURAL WITH YOUR SPEECH AND LEARN TO TALK THROUGH THE MIND MAP TO EXPRESS YOUR FEELINGS AND THOUGHTS TO OTHERS.
WHAT ARE YOU GREAT AT?
WHY OR WHY NOT?
HOW DO YOU BECOME GREAT AT SOMETHING?
PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
DON’ BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES! WE LEARN FROM MAKING MISTAKES. IF YOU’RE NOT MAKING MISTAKES YOU’RE NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH!
USE WHAT EVER TECHNOLOGY YOU CAN.
PHONE
COMPUTER
BOOKS
CAMERA
MOM AND DAD
TREVOR AND MAYA
SAY IT ALOUD! BY SPEAKING AND LISTENING TO YOURSELF YOU CAN LEARN TO SPOT YOUR MISTAKES AND IMPROVE YOUR SPEAKING ABILITY!
DON’T JUST DO IT ONE TIME! PRACTICE THE SAME MIND MAP 10, 20 OR 30 TIMES UNTIL YOU BELIEVE IT IS PERFECT (FOR YOU). AFTER YOU’RE COMFORTABLE WITH SAYING IT SMOOTHLY, THEN, TRY TO EXPLAIN YOUR MIND MAP TO OTHERS. ACCEPT CORRECTION AND DON’T BE DISCOURAGED!
MINDMAP TOPICS YOU LOVE AT FIRST.
MINDMAP SOMETHING THAT IS BOTHERING YOU.
MINDMAP A CRAZY IDEA YOU HAD.
MINDMAP SOMEONE YOU LOVE.
MINDMAP YOURSELF!
GET A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER TO PRACTICE WITH YOU.
IF THEY DON’T KNOW ENGLISH ASK THEM TO RECORD YOU WITH THEIR PHONE OR CAMERA AND THEN WATCH IT TOGETHER.
TEACH SOMEONE ABOUT MIND MAPPING.
BY TEACHING SOMEONE ELSE YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE SUBJECT OF MIND MAPPING AND IF YOU AREN’T IT WILL HELP YOU BECOME BETTER AT IT BECAUSE;
YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT IN DETAIL.
YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THEY UNDERSTAND IT.
YOU HAVE TO ANSWER THEIR QUESTIONS.
YOU SHOULD BE TEACHING A STUDY BUDDY ANY TOPIC YOU WANT TO IMPROVE IN. BEFORE A TEST TEACH SOMEONE ABOUT THE CONTENT OF THE TEST AND WATCH YOUR SCORE IMPROVE!
I MADE ONE MISTAKE, ON PURPOSE, DID YOU SEE IT? CAN YOU FIND IT?
LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENT BOX BELOW.
ARE YOU A TEACHER? ARE YOU LEARNING ENGLISH?
DO YOU LIKE THIS STYLE OF LESSON?
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF OR SEEN MIND MAPPING BEFORE?
I'm just going to update this as I just finished the class. When I posted I had to hurry because the students came a bit earlier than usual. Here is what it looked like with some in class work pictures added.
Please share with any ESL students you know and if you are learning English, I hope this helps.
