WHATSAPP AND ADS

I don't know whether it Just in my region
BUT
multiple ads has been popping up anytime i use the whatsapp status feature

I first noticed this when I updated my whatsapp application on the 6th of march from Google play store

and ever since multiple annoying ads has been popping up affecting me and redirecting me to my mobile Chrome application

I think, it my be as a result of Facebook trying to monetize the application (a feature they said they will introduce in 2019 )
or
another android application is tampering with the whatsapp application

is your whatsapp showing ads ?
Can you relate ?
