Vigan Heritage Village - Steemit
Vigan Heritage Village is where Ilocos region's rich culture and history are crafted in ornate architecture, furniture and detailed ornaments. Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South East Asia.
Vigan is unique for having preserved much of its Hispanic colonial character, particularly its grid street pattern and historical urban lay out. Its significance also lies on how the different architecturql influences are blended to create a homogenous townscape.
Vigan is never Vigan without a Kalesa ride. A "Kalesa" is a horse drawn carriage and is an old mode of transportation. Kalesas are mixed with the present transport modes as tricycles and jeepneys. While it is not the main of moving from one place to another, the government of Vigan has preserved this type for tourist who wants to experience a plain ride to the city.
The most awesome of the most awesome parts of the kalesa ride was actually when we get to enter Calle Crisologo.
The kalesas are parked adjacent to the Vigan Cathedral, so after you get to visit the cathedral, you can look for kalesas beside it.
