How to share your system INTERNET ACCESS to unlimited devices
Hello Steemian
Have you ever been into a coffee shop or private/public cafe to browse the internet with your personal computer where you have to pay to be given access to their network (wifi) but restricted to use just one device on their network by generating a unique username and password for you to access the internet or you have a router at home which allows limited system to connect to it at once (in some android smartphone, it allows maximum connection of eight (8) device to be connected at once)
In this post, i would explain to you how you can easily turn your personal computer into a wifi extender which allow unlimited devices to connect and use the network simultaneously
To connect to some wifi network, you need to input username and password to have access to the internet
To be able to turn you PC into a wifi extender, simply launch your system command prompt by typing cmd from the start menu
Now right click CMD command prompt and Run as an Administrator,
once the command prompt is launched, simply type the following code without quotation"netsh wlan show drivers" to test weather or not your PC can be used to extend wifi
from the output of the command, look for "yes" which is next to "Hosted Network Supported". this simply means that your computer supports wifi extending but if you did not see "yes", then it simply means your computer does not support it .
Now Type the following command without the quotation "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YOURNETWORKNAME key=YOURNETWORKPASSWORD" to setup your network. Take for example i want to use STEEMIT as my hotspot name, and use curation as my network password then what i would input in the command is "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=STEEMIT key=curation" .
To start your hosted network, type this command without quotation "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" to start your network.
Once you have successfully done this, every other wifi supported device would be able to connect to your just created network but they may still not have access to the internet just yet. To allow internet access, you need to share the network which your computer is already connected to with the new hotspot you just created using the command prompt. To do so, simply follow this steps
- From your start menu, click on control panel
4 Click on change adapter settings
NOTE: The network which you created using cmd should also appear on this page with the other network which you are already connected to. from the description in the image above i am already connected to the internet with a wireless network "NassCloud1" and below is the other network which i created with cmd.
5 Right click on the Network which connects your computer to the internet (mine is the NassCloud1) and click on properties
6 Navigate to the sharing tab from the next window that appears, make sure to check the box that reads "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection". Below that, select "Wireless Network Connection" then click ok
Once you have successfully followed all this steps given above then be sure that you have successfully extended your wifi connection to other devices
To be sure that you did it perfectly, navigate back to Network and Sharing centre, both the shared network and the hosted network should read INTERNET
