A Pictograph of Devastation

500,000 people evacuated. Fires up and down the East mountainside of the fertile Willamette Valley. Some man made. Fires in the Southwestern and Northwestern areas of Oregon. Coastal smoke envelopment like never before. Raining ash. Smoke Advisory through Sunday night and Air Quality advisory through Monday night. What a week of recovery for Oregonians. Some fires are not yet contained. Ash continues to rain down. I worry for all the animals, the livestock, the agriculture - the lack of sunlight for the crops.

-

The devastation will take forever to recover from, on top of Coronavirus shut-down woes. Freezers full of food may be all that is left. Say goodbye to the Oregon economy. Yet some areas of the economy are booming..? Folks are moving to Oregon from New York, California, and other parts of the U.S. Folks inside the state are fleeing East, to the rural towns, to seek shelter. Property rentals are nonexistent. Hotels, RV lots, and mobile homes are full. A no-eviction order is in place. Cheap homes and land for sale are getting bought up by tycoons far and wide. Next year will be the best year ever, some say. And the ground will certainly be fertile soon, for replanting. Maybe we should have bought in Christmas Valley for $10,000 a plot. (No, no we still shouldn't do that.) But, if we were ever to see the day that property HAD a value - it would be today.

Don't actually move here - there is no water

The sun came up but then it all got dark again, once I turned back around and headed North to return to Albany.
