Many Chinese are oppose this.
But culturally as a whole, in my experience meeting people here, too many lack empathy for animals or even other people.
The society is not yet at a level where they can care for creatures other themselves. Western societies have animal rights because we have decent human rights. We care about them and have the ability to make societal changes, even though its long process often. Chinese people must follow the narrative even if they disagree.
