Icy in Niagara

In the midst of winter, there is a vibrant and convivial scene in Niagara, Ontario. It is #Icewine season!

A perfect winter day. The sun has come out and the temperature has risen a few degrees. Wineries from the Niagara region have gathered together for the Niagara Icewine Festival along the main stretch of Niagara-on-the-Lake. It's a perfect day to celebrate the icewine season and a great opportunity to sample the various ice wines from the region.

Icewine is magical and is deserving of a celebration. Given the proper winter weather conditions, grapes hanging out on the vine begin their transformation. Thanks to Mother Nature, the colours and flavours of the grapes intensify and produce an abundant of palates. Flavours that range from berries and tropical notes to deep butterscotch, and colours ranging from light yellow and pink to deep reds and ambers.

I really enjoyed an icewine by Small Talk - 2009 Dessert Anyone Vidal Icewine. This wine is deeper and complex in taste, leaning towards flavours of peach and butterscotch and has a rich amber colour. So comforting and warming on a cold winters day.

I love Small Talk Winery. The Shiny Apple Cider is delicious and perfect for the summer.
