Does 6500 Volts Wireless Power Hurt You?

Wow - Very high voltage Plasma arc coming off a coil in a kit imported from China.

As a dad with two tech-crazy teenagers in the house I'm always looking for projects we can do together as a family and this one fit the bill perfectly. It involves electricity, electronics, construction and a bit of potential danger.

When my 15 year old son Charlie told me he'd ordered a Tesla coil on the internet from China, a was quite forceful in my assertion that this was going to be a project that would need adult supervision!

If you look closely you will see that the instructions were all in Chinese too. We don't read or speak Chinese.

So with some help from his 13 year old brother Oliver (they both did most of the soldering) this is ther result. I thought quite impressive if fraught with the danger of 6,500 volts flying around the kitchen table. It also gave me my first video to upload to DTube with the link below.

And in case you're wondering if 6,500 Volts hurts if you touch it... we never found out because that would just be plain stupid!
