The Reports from the Witnesses 2018-01-21
The Reports from the Witnesses aims to provide the community with a summary of what all the witnesses have been up to. Every week, I collect all of the reports from the individual witnesses and assemble them into a single aggregated report. New witness announcements and witness retirement announcements are included in the report as well.
Witnesses can continue posting their posts to the witness-category and/or witness-update tags, and I will assemble everything I find there. If I miss any reports, just let me know and I will correct it. If you want to direct message me a report via chat, that is fine too.
Historic Reports from the Witnesses can be found here:

So without further ado, I bring you the fifty seventh edition of 'Reports from the Witnesses'!

Some Notes:
- Many witnesses do not report every week, and prefer to only report when they have updates.
- I recommend that you include communication as one of your criteria for evaluating witnesses, but keep in mind - it is not the only criteria. There are some witnesses that prefer to work "behind the scenes", and do not do much as far as reports.
- For witnesses that are not currently posting any reports, I would encourage you to provide the community with at least some insight into what you are currently working on :)
Remember to vote for witnesses!

Are there any plans to allow segmentation of the Steem blockchain to distribute a Witness operation across multiple servers instead of running full nodes? The memory and space requirements are increasing daily. Going to need a Google Bucket kind of dealio where a huge data structure is spread out across multiple server nodes hosting a set of manageable leafs. Then steemians can pool Witness resources without an insane amount of RAM, Storage and computing power at each node.
256G of RAM isn't going to be cheap :-D The minimal 32G requirement is almost too low now. Suspect a slight memory leak going on.
Yes. AppBase is the start of this, and it is planned.
Afaik, there is no memory leak. The symptoms do not point to this.
Once again - a great job :) thank you tim, our witness - gonna read some of the ones picking my eye.
You're so nice for commenting on this post. For that, I gave you a vote! I just ask for a Follow in return!
Does someone know who is this fella and what does he want?
It looks like someone making a point about the rampant reward pool abuse going on. Have a look at their comment history.
Tim I appreciate your effort to make steemit a successful platform. Keep up the great work.
Spectacular work and I voted for you!
Thanks :)
Wow!! This is wonderful, it would help bring and keep us abreast with the actions and activities of all witnesses, also what they are working on now.. Nice one boss.
Why no monetization on this post?
I am one of the witnesses, and I get paid for being a witness. Anytime I do a witness post, I decline payout to prevent getting double paid for my work.
thanks, I have much to learn :)
Hello Tim. I want to ask you something. Can I ask you here?
Sure, what’s up?
Do you know if SteemConnect.com is trustworthy?
I trust https://v2.steemconnect.com/ which looks like it redirects to there, so seems OK. No third party application (even steemit.com) is 100% safe though - technically. There is always a very slight risk when entering your keys into any website. Some are a lot safer than others though, and Steemit + SteemConnect are both sites I trust.
@timcliff definitely deserves your votes... He is dedicated and very enthusiastic with stem/steemit! It seems to be one of the safest "bet" you can make ;)
Thanks :)
Hello :) I just voted you as my witness ;) Keep on posting .
Thanks :)
You do get 30 votes by the way.
Been running a Witness node for almost a week. Ambienthex is just picking up blocks, burning clock cycles and electricity is all :-D Not enough votes to get into the Witness pool circulation yet. Was at position 189 last time I checked. Price feed all in place and reporting correctly as well.
Many may fall out of the Witness pool when the traffic increases to 1 to 2% of Facebook level traffic. Going to need a proper data center and server farm or earn enough to cover some hefty AWS fees to keep up soon. Know Steemit is using AWS. Hope they have a large pool of server instances on standby incase things spike quickly. Can stage nodes as AWS spot instances and only pay as you turn them on and bump up the spot instance budget as needed. A way to have backups on hand for free. Sure they have a plan and giving the Steem community the chance to support the network themselves for as long as they can.
