Witness Update: Top 50 Witness, Backup-Node & Utopian.io Registration
Wow - what a week!
First of all - thanks to a huge Vote from @pumpkin (thank you!) and my amazing Voters (incl. Witnesses @felixxx, @reggaemuffin, @imacryptorick and @yehey - and of course all other voters!) - I pushed into the top 50 - where I am currently at rank #48.
This is huge for me and I couldn't be happier.
Especially reaching Top 50 within 1-2 weeks after posting my introduction post - blew my mind.
While some of you might think that this happened fast - maybe too fast, I won't argue with it happening fast. However, I'm confident in my ability & vision as a developer, witness & steemian - since I've pretty much done nothing else for the last 5-6 months and will continue to push myself.
With great power - comes great responsibility.
I expected to sign 1 block every day (which was already great) for the next weeks / months, but due to my #48 rank, I currently sign roughly 1 every hour - which results in extra measures that had to be taken, to make sure that:
1.) I don't miss any blocks
2.) If I miss blocks, that I have a backup node ready and a kill-switch to disabled the witness if both nodes are down
New 64GB RAM Server
That's why I ordered and setup a 64GB-Server(DE) from Privex - which is my new main node.
I understand the problematic of having too many nodes from the same provider / in the same datacenter - but I'm currently not cashing out any of my earnings from Steem - and the ability to pay with SBD & STEEM is really useful for me.
However, I am going to order a 64GB Server in Sweden from Privex as soon as they are ready and will change my current 32GB Node to a Seed Node with ZRAM enabled.
So then at the least the data centers are more diversified. But the future goal will be to use an external provider as 3rd Backup Node.
Kill-Switch
I have also set up conductor with the kill-switch feature from @furion - to make sure that as soon as I miss blocks, the backup node will be used and if the backup-node isn't responding, the witness will be disabled until I fix the problem ASAP.
A thanks also goes out to @themarkymark for his great tutorial and who has answered a few of my questions, to make sure that I know everything important.
Utopian.io Registration
As you might know, I'm developing the registration for utopian. And it's nearly done - currently in an open test state.

Next to my work as Witness and the work for utopian, I'm also developing, managing and improving my own project: smartsteem.
Vote-Selling is currently not the most giving business model for the Steem Ecosystem - but my goal is to make smartsteem as fair as possible for all users and use it as the foundation for coming projects.
And that's pretty much it - all in all, my activity on steem related topics feels currently like a 24/7 job - but I like it!
I will try to make this update a weekly thing - but I'll at least do one when important things are happening.

Weißt Du, auf welchem Stand die Registrierung über weitere Steem Apps wie z.B. DTube aktuell steht? Oder ist genau der Registrierungsprozess, den Du entwickelst, dann für diverse Applikationen auf der Blockchain adaptierbar?
Das weiß ich auch sehr zu schätzen @surfermarly!!
Der Prozess sollte übernehmbar sein für jegliche Anwendungen - weiß jedoch leider nicht auf welchem Stand dtube & Co. in dem Bereich sind ..

Hi there! I am new steemian. I read your proposal for witness. I like it the way you described it. I also like smartstreem. I am a new user for smartsteem as well. In my view it is one of the most interesting and genius ways to buy upvote. I especially like the way it votes as multiple individuals, and without leaving a promotional comment.
However, I was wondering, in your witness proposal, there is not too much content regarding how you are going to help new users outside your project. I know smartsteeem itself is beneficial, that's why I am a user, but if you elaborate more on that it will he helpful.
The other item is, how will you personally fight spam, and low quality content on the steem platform? What is your proposal for that? I have been using steem for only 3 weeks. I have only 18 posts so far. To me that is a lot. But I see people have hundreds of posts during that time. Several people (some with very high steempower) post only a picture and 100s of people upvote it. How is this fair? Then there are users who post completely non-sense post and pictures multiple times a day, for what?
Nobody votes them.
I believe in this platform. I have invested my hard earned money into this, as you can easily see from my profile. I am willing to invest much more time and money if I see more serious people like you show their support to the new users. I like new users and investors to feel at home, feel protected, supported by you and your peers.
As a witness how are you going to address these items?
I do not know if you will see this post of not, but hoping you will.
