Witness Update from @derangedvisions and @c0ff33a Witness Team โ๏ธ๐จ๐ผโ๐ป
Now that the dust has settled from Hard Fork 20, and life on the blockchain has returned to a semblance of normality my general feeling is we are starting to see some of the benefits come through. Spam has been considerably reduced both in terms of comments and wallet memos. Curation rewards are up - mine are much higher and I am not particularly doing anything different - although of course now if you are upvote a post or a comment - waiting until it is 15 minutes old will ensure you benefit from the curation instead of it going back to the reward pool.
It is fair to say the Hard Fork did not proceed entirely smoothly, but I also feel the negativity and blame that was thrown around was not justified either. The fact that the Blockchain and Steem are being actively worked on and developed is a huge bonus, it show's a commitment from the Steemit inc developers and our top Witnesses to keep driving Steem forward. Our Top Witness released gtg Witness Update which is well worth reading if you have not had the opportunity already - it covers not only what happened with HF20 but only future plans and solutions. I'm confident the lessons learned will make future Hard Forks smoother running.
Resource Credits are however still a major talking point, and they are still causing difficulty for the smallest Steem Power holders. Whatever it might seem like - this is a positive move to stop spam and bloat clogging up the blockchain, it does affect our smallest Steem Power holders and new accounts - giving them very limited ability. I am not sure what the resolution is for this, at present for new accounts it seems the option is it either invest into Steem to start themselves off - or if they already know accounts hopefully being able to get a delegation to boost them off. It's a problem the @welcomewagon have challenged by running a competition to win SP delegations a very generous offer they funded themselves - I can't help but feel though we should be seeing more proactive solutions coming from higher the Witness ranking.
Talking about what are Witnesses doing to justify their position, that was mentioned in this What I look for when voting witnesses post by @theycallmedan, who is well worth following his recent posts have been quite inspiring. Anyway, we each only have 30 Witness votes, and right now there are 142 active Witnesses to choose from - so deciding who you vote for as a Witness can be quite a challenge. I think for myself personally I look at what they are doing to support and grow the blockchain, then at the developers producing various dApps and also those concentrating on growing communities. I try to keep a broad spread throughout the table and for Witnesses with a variety of skill sets.
What am I doing that is so special as a Witness? Now that is a question, my aim has always been to support the blockchain that I have invested so much of my time and money into. How I do it, aside from paying for a server capable of processing the blockchain transactions, is by actively supporting a broad range of content creators and communities - engaging people and encouraging them. I have also delegated my own Steem Power to a large range of community accounts and individuals to help them progress and grow.
Working as a Witness team with @derangedvisions, Wes is doing a wide range of community projects and also runs weekly photography contests with big prizes. He is also attending SteemFest and an active promoter of Steem.
We also like to support our Witness voters and encourage their retention by randomly selecting two of our voters in Witness Updates to receive a @steembasicincome share each - SBI is a popular way to reward and encourage people, a 1 Steem share will ensure the nominated account receives a small upvote on their posts for life.
We now have 458 Witness Voters, using a Random number generator two will be selected to receive SBI shares.
The Witness @sapphic , thank you very much for being an @c0ff33a and @derangedvisions Witness voter
@mnallica , thank you very much for being an @c0ff33a and @derangedvisions Witness voter
I'm looking forward to a bright future on the Steem Blockchain, if we continue to work together with each other and support ourselves and the growing communities then the opportunities are endless.

The greatest challenge we face on Steemit is getting our posts seen, I have always believed the simplest and best value way of doing this is by commenting on the blog posts of others, the more you engage people and interact with them the greater the chance they will visit your own blog and return the favour. Other then spending all my free time commenting on Steemit posts, I also distribute coffee roasting machines and also espresso coffee machines and roast my own Speciality Coffee Range. being one of the premium coffee suppliers Yorkshire including a wide range of filter coffee sachets

I was really glad that #inktober coincided with the hardfork, as I felt it helped a lot of us, at least in the artist community, to get back to 'normal'.
I am also loving earning SBD again not just Steem, that's fun.
Thank you very much, it was lucky everything sorted itself out for the start of October! I have been enjoying the inktober posts.

Thanks for this post @c0ff33a. And thanks for the job you guys are doing :)
^^ And also you do a superb job at this. Thank you so much :)
Thank you very much, you certainly are doing a great deal for the community- and pushing out comments all over the place too. I think smaller accounts will need a lot more help and encouragement from established ones moving forward.

Good to see the reduction of spam after hf 20 hope it stays that way.
I looked at the issue with low steem account holders and it seemed to me that if each account had about 15 steem. They should be able to interact ok...I could be wrong?
It seems like many new accounts are being created with almost zero steem? That's not going to work for many noobs.
What do you think?
Thank you very much, it does feel like there is much less in terms of spam comments - I canโt say about posts because I never really looked at the volume of rubbish ones before - but it makes sense that if you have to invest in the platform to precipitate then you are more likely to put the effort in to produce decent content.
There seems to be a multitude of sign up options, I think 15 Steem Power would still be limiting for comments - 25 to 30 should be enough to really kick people off with a decent amount of activity.

Hi! How are you my dear friend nice post Up&Resteem
Thank you very much, good to see you back!

your are welcome my dear friend
i have to disagree with you here because the current rc budget is discouraging for new users way more than the spammers. ned says he's working on a new interface for "normies" but i have no idea how it's gonna make people pay when they're so used to using every other platforms virtually free ๐
we haven't seen any increase in user activity for a long time now. we'll see if there's any changes soon.
Thank you very much, I think it is a tricky balance to get people started somewhere they can earn monetary rewards for the work they post. Certainly new accounts are at present either going to have to buy into the concept or be lucky and have someone established they might know delegate to them to start them off.
I think we will see in the next few months how everything progresses, I know SMTโs are the big focus for the future.

Yes we'll have to wait until next year. I think less emphasis on the freemium model and more democratization through smts might do the trick ๐
Thanks for the update, i too noticed curation rewards were up!
Thank you very much, yes that is one benefit when less of the reward pool is being used up on spam posts.
