Oakland's Women's March
The great turning is coming. As I marched alongside my young students at the Women's March I bathed in the energy of strong women whose resilient ancestors of many different lineages accompanied them in spirit.
While in the past men have feared our powers as healers, our voices that speak truth and justice, and our ability to bring forth life with love, many of them marched alongside us that day. They were their to represent their mothers, sisters, grandmothers, children and break away from the toxic masculinity brought forth by patriarchy.
Songs of resilience rang throughout the streets of Oakland. Hips cradling the wombs of life danced and rejoiced. Children on top of their parents shoulders smiled down at the crowds.
There is much work and healing left to be done. Many people marched but many peoples voices continue to be silenced. The abundance of children that took to the streets was a reminder of what is yet to come.
As I looked at my students I was reminded that their voices are loud and strong, that they walk fearlessly and humbly, and they lead with love.
